Van Gaal wants to give the 3-5-2 formation another shot this season, and I think it can work for him, but only if he has the right players. I think we can all agree that Coleman's style of play is perfect for the right wing back role in a 3-5-2 formation.

I think he needs this sort of move. Has stood still the last season or so for me. Maybe he can push on now and get better. Working under Van Gaal will help him.

Reading this article makes you wonder why they haven't made a concrete move for him already. If £20m is his valuation I would go as far as £25m in this transfer market.

Mings is worth £8m, Austin has had figures like £16m bandied about, Fellaini worth well over £20m.

There shouldn't be any problem with his valuation, but I'm sure certain people would complain about it like they have in the past with Duff, Keane and Long anyway.

Everton interested in Leeds' right back Sam Byron, who has over 100 league appearances to his name, fuelling speculation (from me, mainly) that they're planning for losing Coleman: http://www.theguardian.com/football/...P=share_btn_tw

    For whatever it's worth..

According to Gab Marcotti these rumours are emanating from Cloemans camp, we are interested but he's not our 1st choice. He believes our we've managed to keep our #1 target quiet thus far.
What a surprise. If he was English, Italian or French he would probably be first choice. Scratch that. Would be first choice.

It is not a great idea to announce your first choice unless you want to pay top whack for them.

United are willing to use Jonny Evans as part of the deal according to the Irish Independent. They sight 'reports' as their source so nothing too concrete there but it does seem to make a bit of sense, and maybe something Everton would be interested in. Link.

That'd be a big step backwards for Everton though, there would still have to be some significant financial remuneration. Evans peaked for United a few years ago and has been dodgy at the back since Ferguson left. I don't think they would go for it, not if they have any ambitions of doing better next season.

United linked with a £14m bid for Matteo Darmian.

If they can pay that much for a Torino RB who is give or take the same age, less experience (at a club of a significantly lower standard), less than half Coleman's national team caps, less European experience, less assists, significantly less goals and - no disrespect to Darmian, he's a good player - a worse player, a player with no Premier League experience, surely they could pay at least £25m for Coleman - who grew up supporting United - without feeling shortchanged.

TBH I felt he would have ended up at United sooner or later if David Moyes stuck around but I have no hopes of it now with a foreign manager there.

It's annoying that price has to be an issue anyways with the money they forked out for Shaw & Fellaini and the fact it's a problem position for them.

Look at the money players like Idrissa Gueye, Charlie Austin, Tyrone Mings and - in the interest of balance - Shane Long are going for.

It seems it included a rather pathetic one

SLIGO ROVERS stand to profit to the amount of £160,000 in total from Seamus Coleman’s continuing progress at Everton, manager Paul Cook revealed yesterday

Coleman’s move to Goodison Park - two years ago this month - was notable for the meagre £60,000 Sligo received for the initial transfer. But four additional clauses in the deal will ensure the Bit o’ Red will get a reasonable fee in the end for the Killbybegs flyer.
Another £25,000 installment should arrive soon if, as expected, the 22-year-old makes his international debut for the Republic of Ireland against Wales at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday week.

So it sound like the max they will get from the sale in total is £160,000. Looks like bad business, but not every player will be a Coleman and I expect the clubs are not in a strong negotiating position, glad of any cash I imagine.

Looks like United have found their new right back in Matteo Darmian, an Italian international who plays for Torino. The fee is £12.7m.

It's a sad state of affairs and a crying shame if he goes the rest of his career without playing for a Champions League team, and approaching the age of 27 that looks like a distinct possibility.

One part of me thinks he was an idiot for signing a five year deal at Everton when he did, but the other more realistic part of me thinks he was right to get that long-term security for himself.

If you score that much goals from RB and accumulate that much assists, and managers like Van Gaal, Wenger & Mourinho still don't want to know anything about it, then Seamus could probably score 14 goals next season and he would still attract barely any concrete interest.

I genuinely think if he wasn't Irish then a team would have put in a bid of 20-25m for him by now.

Ah well he would probably just get messed around like Keane did at Liverpool anyway and Duff did at Chelsea anyway.

I don't think being Irish has anything got to do with it myself. I think he needs the move myself because he seems to have stalled the last 12 months but I can see and understand if the likes of Van Gaal didn't want to sign him.
