He broke is leg for his country, literally and he showed up for every game no matter what the impact was on his club career. In 20 years he'll probably be the only player that young people hear about from this era.

He doesn't have any 'legendary' highlight moments but his commitment and passion qualifies him in my opinion.

That said, the last 10 years have been the worst in Irish soccer since...well a long time...so I get why it's easy to dismiss

Yeah, the leg-break took away a lot from his Irish career ~ And as you say that happened playing for Ireland.

A very good attacking fullback, that if the right transfer had come in at the right time could have played at a high level ~ Champions league level if such a move worked out for him.

When Moyes joined United I thought Coleman would get his big move. Even though Moyes got the sack before the season was finished Coleman made the PFA team of the season and was Everton's best player as they finished fifth that season.

Seems like he never really agitated for a move though and seemed happy to be an everyone lifer. Hopefully the pay off is that they continue to let him transition into a coaching role. He's had multiple managers rave about how amazing he is in the dressing room so if he goes about the right way, could have a successful move into management

Maybe Séamus is too nice to be a manger. How many successful soccer managers are " nice " ?

The ruthlessness needed to be a successful manager, wouldn't very often be tied together with being nice !

I would agree, I'm not convinced Coleman has high level management potential. Passionate guy, probably a good motivator, but I've never heard much from him in interviews in a tactical sense. I get why people naturally think leaders on the pitch should be good managers, but they often aren't because there's a lot more to the job than that.

Gets a couple of minutes of garbage time for Everton today with the game already in the bag. Will hopefully get one more run out at Goodison in their last home game.

I wonder if there is any chance of Moyes repurposing Coleman as a CB for next season? Good chance that Branthwaithe is sold this summer and with O'Brien still developing they might need some cover. I read they're in the market for a right back as well this summer

I figure they're maybe repurposing him as a coach/backroom guy. Can't see him playing much if at all next season.

Ah crap.

If he's out of the June games then I think we've seen his last Ireland cap tbh. Would have been nice for him to get a send-off in the June home friendly

He can't stay fit anymore it seems. He's 36, going on 37. I'd be surprised if his next contract at Everton was anything other than a backroom role, with maybe a training player element, a bit like an outfield version of a third or fourth choice goalkeeper.

I imagine he wasn't close to being fit, but it was one of those games he would have started with a leg hanging off.

As I said in the Senegal match thread I think he'll hang them up after leading Everton out for their first game at the name stadium.

i will, any time i've seen him play for everton this season, he's looked easily good enough for the level, even after missing months. i wouldn't write him off yet...

I suppose part of being good enough for the level is the ability to be fit for more than a third of the season. Even when he was fit, he was an unused sub more often than not. I'd have to agree with Eirambler
