Good original post Kevin, it´s great to see someone make the effort to write something coherant, legible and structured, rather than the half-arsed attempts you often get. Whatever your views on the post (and I think most of it´s spot on) it´s refreshing to see something which could easily be taken from a feature in a national paper. I know I will only get slagged for being pedantic, but I think it would be a real bonus to this forum if people made the effort to make their posts more readable. I´m aware some posts are just short and sweet and that some people have not got the time/inclination/education to render their submissions correct to the utmost point, but the barrage of cliched, misspelt, anti-punctuated and grammatically incorrect posts and responses on the forum is overwhelming.
If you have something to say, why not say it in your own voice instead of adopting the sickeningly familiar mantle of football cliche? We´re all victims of exposure to this genre from listening to pundits who had more brains in their feet than they do in their heads. Even in Kevin´s offering, which was miles above standard, you´ll find them creeping surrepititiously in; `frying pan into the fire´, ´reputation is tarnished´, `set the world on fire´, ´unmitigated disaster´ etc.
I´m not talking specifically about posters in this thread or any other, I would just like to see more well-informed, well written posts and less guff.
At last, a poster that can spell "hear hear".
At the end of the day it is still a top top forum with some quality comments on the day to day of football both on and off the pitch.Heres hoping that next week the Irish lads will give 110% against a very difficult team because there are no easy games in international football.Even though it probably wont be sexy football I predict that Aiden McGeady will set the world on fire with some silky skills and the rest of the lads will run themselves into the ground for the team
Oh yeah......... ole ole ole
Its really not that complicated!!!

If you bought a paper and it was bad, would you keep reading it? If you bought a terrible book, would you keep reading? Why keep going on a site if you dont like it?
As for "Pedantic" shouldnt you translate for your slower readers?

I´m not going to even start on that ´sentence´!
It must be wonderful to be so clever! I didn’t know that you needed an IQ test before you could post on a football forum?
There are some excellent posters on here irrespective of their education as you put it. It’s just sad that some people place more emphasis on a couple of grammar errors and spelling mistakes rather than the content of the post. I know, I know my username should spell ‘Fearbeag’.
Anyway what do you think of the Irish football team at the moment? It would be interesting to hear your views.
I thought I made it pretty clear that I was not trying to be condescending at all. I just meant that making an effort to make the posts more readable would make the experience of reading them more enjoyable. Sometimes the content of the post is undermined by the manner in which it´s put across.
As for Ireland, I agreed with the assesment of Kevin77 when he said that the short-term outlook was quite bleak. On the other hand, Shay Given gave a reassuring performance for City today and proved again that he will be an integral player to both his club and country. Duff looked lively, scored a goal, and seemed like he was beginning to get back the confidence to beat a man at pace again. Stephen Ireland gave another reminder of the vision and creativity we are lacking without him. My worries are mostly about the centre of midfield without either of the Reids or Ireland in there. The four first-choice attacking players can all be a genuine handful on their day, but are all dependant on their form, which is inconsistent.

In fairness most of the posts on here are fine to read and unless you are an english teacher or something the odd grammer or spelling mistake shouldn't be a big deal and shouldn't interfere with your enjoyment of the website. Its not like you have to decifer text message short hand!!

I agree 100%. The majority of posts on here have some spelling, grammar and typo mistakes but as long as you can quickly read through them and understand what the poster is writing, it shouldn't be a problem. However, writing in SMS short hand, making some readers second-guess what some words mean is just not on al all!
Of course there are some acceptable abreviations which have become the standard when posting in a forum such as; IMHO, AFAIK etc.
But users of SMS sentences like; "I dn't kno if Duff shud start 2day" should be given a warning at first and then banned if they become a repeat offender.![]()
