    Groundsman attacked in Tubbercurry

A YOUNG Tubbercurry man underwent a five and a half hour operation in Beaumont Hospital on Friday last after he was attacked in the south Sligo town on New Year’s Eve.

Nigel O’Brien suffered severe head injuries after he went to break up a fight between some local men when the incident happened shortly before 3.30am on New Year’s Eve. He had been placed on a ventilator for a week.

Nigel, who looks after the Sligo Rovers’ football ground, was taken to Sligo General Hospital from where he was transferred to the Beaumont.

    Hope he's alright!

Given the seriousness of the situation I find it hard to see a funny side to the poor man's current health condition.

May he have a safe and as speedy a recovery as possible.

Cannot see anything remotely funny about what happened to this poor chap who it appears is in a very serious position. If we are goiing to comment then it should be to wish him a quick recovery to good health and hope it will not be too long before he is back at work in the Showgrounds again.

I find it unbelievible the things some people make jokes about on this forum.

From what I heard Nigel received his injuries when he went to the aid of another person who was injured and I really hope that avvenalaf is correct when he says he will be ok.

What the hell are you talking about, you little *****, I want the thread closed, for God's sake.

I FIND THIS THE MOST INSULTING COMMENT I HAVE EVER BEEN SUBJECTED TO.

i am a 45 year old supporter who bought a 15 year ticket last year , which i did not use yet , have been at every rovers home match since 1983 , sold two 1000 euro syndicates last year and tried to show a bit of respect for a friend of mine nigel who was injured badly. obviously you are well in with the mods when you bring in personal abuse and decide when threads are closed. Bad form all round.
If this is the most insulting comment you have ever been subjected to, you must have lived your life on Inisfree
You think it's fine to accuse me of making a joke about this unfortunate event when all I wondered about was why it was suddenly coming up three weeks after everyone knew about it and I suggested that the thread be closed lest someone say something they shouldn't. Ever heard of sub judice?
