Devine leaves Cork City to return to Waterford

Goalkeeper Mick Devine is returning to Waterford United after eight seasons at Cork City. The 35-year-old has decided to make the move after describing the Leeside club's latest contract offer as "a joke". The arrival of former Drogheda keeper Dan Connor at Turners Cross is also a likely factor in Devine's decision to leave.

Whoa. Does this mean Waherford can afford to meet Mick's contract demands? Has he demanded parity with his City contract of last year - which must have been 1K p/w at least - or has he taken a pay-cut to move home?

In any case, I've always liked the guy and he's a great keeper by this league's standards, so I won't be writing Waherford off yet.

WUFC are running a very tight budget, and it seems several players from last year have yet to re-sign such is the offers on the table, so I can't see them making an exception for Devine.
Or, you know, what micls said.

That's not how, so let's nip that right in the bud.
Mick had been on a full time contract at Cork, though not for the figure mentioned above by the way. He was offered a deal worth about half this, but thought it derisory after his years of service, and so left.
We can't afford to even match that recent Cork offer, but instead signed him on a part-time contract. He's gotten fixed up with a job in the meantime, with Uhlsport I'm lead to believe.
All of this is in the public domain, even all on here, but never let the facts get in the way of your agenda, eh?

Thanks for clearing that up. It wasn't my intention to impute that Waterford would be treating Mick favourably to the rest of the squad, it's just I've been living in Cork for a while now and have heard a few ludicrous sums bandied about in relation to what some players were getting. That's why I was wondering if Waterford could really afford him. Clearly, it's more about moving home for Mick though and it was, as was said, a case of him feeling like he was unfairly treated by City.

Mick Divine is from cobh not waterford so i doubt moving home was a factor in him going to waterford, just a thought but maybe that was the only offer he got after leaving city.
