I base this on the fact that Sligo Rovers are one of the very few teams left in the League of Ireland going into the 2009 season who have not changed their manager. This stability will count for a lot in the upcoming term.

Regarding the reaction of GUFC fans to Kenna's behaviour.........for those who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don't, no explanation is possible.

Its very similiar to the Sean Connor leaving Rovers scenario at the end of the 2006 season. Only difference really is that its more of a blow for Galway because its only weeks before the season starts, Connor left us before the end of the season.

So it's not really the same at all then. Fair enough.

well both sets of fans feel remorse towards the two managers for jumping ship to "bigger" clubs...

Remorse, more like anger I'd say!. Though weren't a lot of you Sligo heads delighted to be rid of Connor anyway?. I remember when Kenny left us for Bohs there was similar wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst our support but you eventually have to face facts and realise that there's no real loyalty in football, players or managers. Likewise fans would be quick to turn on them if things started going badly.

i suppose when he was signing players like Singh(although later we realised he was very injury prone) and Chris Turner, we thought he was God. He was bringing us reasonable success, and brought us back from the Premier, even if most of the players were signed by "a scout source". But i suppose as you say "thats football"! There is very little loyalty, especially in the LOI.

If you have heard people saying, "were glad he's gone" its probably through biterness, and "look what he did to Bohs" etc. He looks like he's making a go at Dundalk, so best of luck to him. Although i still think he's not to be trusted.

    Very true.

ambitious young manager leaves club to move to bigger one in the hope of getting an even better job long term. hardly a new story.

i think the most complaints are that JK (rather surprisingly) confirmed he was staying on only to move on at the very next available opportunity.

Personally I think he did a smashing job in keeping us up last year and fair dues to him for that.

He has moved to a higher profile club and is looking to get into the pro-game in England as soon as he can really.

He spoke to the local media about loyalty to United as they had given him his first job in management and spoke about how he was looking forward to the 2009 season in Galway. He then went home to Birmingham for the xmas and was to return this week. Instead he just didnt turn up. Next thing we know he has the Pats job. Pats fans can call us pathetic and ungrateful all they want but this is digraceful behaviour and every football fan would be disgusted if this happened at their club. Galway v Pats in Terryland will be very interesting.
That sums it up perfectly IMO.

It could be more of a Rob McDonald scenario than a Sean Connor scenario .
