Well at least they won't have to wait 2 or 3 more weeks to have a new manager in place but it's fair to say that they are taking a big gamble on Foster. Granted they also took one on Kenna which worked out but hard to tell how this is going to work out.

Derek coming back will soften the blow of O'Shea leaving. Obviously he never really wanted to leave in the first place.

A pity after avoiding relegation that Kenna has not left the club on the best of terms.

Thanks Jeff, but now as Paulie Cicero said in Goodfellas, 'now I have to turn my back on you'.
Best of luck Fozzie, and roll on the visit of Pats later this year, should be fun!

Derek was always likely to come back as when pats went part time all players contracts were void and derek was prob not going to sign a part time contract with pats, as he wanted to move back to galway as his family are based in here

I think we came out of this rather well. If you look back at the results from last season, I believe you will see that results (points on the board) only really started to improve when Ian arrived. Add that in with getting Derek back and the fact that kennas mad wages dont have to be forked out, positive, positivie, positive! At least we didnt get Doolin !!!!

Very positive points, Terry, all correct too!

Plus it would appear from the Irish Times report that pats had to hand over money as well as O'Brien to keep Kenna.

Although O'Brien could have walked due to the 30% pay cut anyhoo.

spoke to Ian this morning and will post link to interview shortly. I'd prefer if Jeff had helped keep us up and left, rather than not kept us up and left, but I'd be very disappointed with him. Ian seems a lovely guy, and he is committed to playing good football which is noble.

    will post the rest later

Jay O'Shea remains a Galway United player but is likely to move soon, setanta.com can reveal.

The livewire winger was enormously instrumental in saving The Tribesmen from relegation last season and was immediately on his way to Derby County for a trial.

O'Shea did well at the English side, scoring twice in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Notts County.

In November, it was reported that a £400,000 deal had been agreed between Galway and County; it was subsequently expected that he would switch to The Rams with the reopening of the transfer window this month.

However, new United boss Ian Foster told setanta.com: "Transfer deadline-day is manic and that is how it will be for the rest of the month with Jayo.

"There are offers on the table and the club are looking at them. Obviously, I'd love for Jayo to stay but am expecting that he will leave.

"However, he is still under contract at Galway United."
