    Recent Musical Acquisitions

Any recent musical acquisitions over the Christmas?

Armed with some Vouchers given to me as Xmas presents I picked up this rather retrospective lot - some of which I owned years ago on tape!!

    The Blue Album - Weezer
    The Green Album - Weezer
Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
Axis - Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix
    Nowhere - Ride
    Kasabian
    Stutter - James
    Laid - James

I was particularly chuffed with the re-issued and expanded Ride album. It now includes a further EP release from 1991, "Today Forever" - the one with the shark on the cover - which is difficult to track down on its own.

Finally managed to get round to downloading Fleet Foxes debut, wonderful stuff. Gave a few listens to Vampire Weekend too, not that keen really.

Fleet Foxes appear to be an essential purchase - I'm getting wide to them late but appear to have produced a great album by all accounts.

Bold As Love is a brilliant album. I love it to death.

I only got one album with the Christmas vouchers. It was Space Oddity by David Bowie. I still don't know what to think about it.

Happily I have that EP and the album on CD since those days. And the ink hasn't eaten through the discs yet!

Have had the Fleet Foxes one more or less since it came out, still don't know what to make of it, but in truth I think I don't like it that much.

It changes all the time but Bold As Love is back as my favourite Jimi album at the moment.

Got a nice few bits and pieces over the hols though:
The brilliant Glasvegas album, packaged with A Snowflake Fell just for the Christmas.
Also, and unashamedly, the Jethro Tull Christmas Album. Watching too much Saxondale on Dave over the last month!
A brilliant triple CD retrospective, 10 years of Finger Lickin' records mixed by Soul Of Man.
And finally got Debussy's Iberia on a 'used & new' via Amazon from the US.

Needed to boost my breakbeat consumption too so got hold of
    Pendulum's current one, In Silico
    Splitloop - Here On Business
Atomic Hooligan - Sex, Drugs and Blah Blah Blah
    Freq Nasty's Fabriclive (42 I think)
and Slyde - Everyone's Entitled To Our Opinion
haven't listened to those last two yet, but the first three get three thumbs up.

Fleet Foxes I got recently, really like that album, ditto Crystal Castles, especially as I approach a lot of new music like that with a degree of scepticism.

Also finally got around to getting a Notorious BIG Best Of, a **** Buttons album, RJD2's one, Cat Power's the Dark End Of The Street, rebought a Toots and the Maytals collection called Sweet Dandy, as well as Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space by Spiritualized.

Haven't given the RJD2, **** Buttons or Cat Power ones much of a spin yet, but I'm happy with my recent purchases

f*ck buttons is supposed to be a fine album, i heard some stuff off it and decided i wanted to listen to the Boredoms straight away. so i'm not sold on the hype i guess hehe. fleet foxes is terrific, a lovely record, stann (i think it was?), try it again. it really only hit me after i put away the album for a while and then went back to it.

not much new music lately, got some Bach and Arvo Part from a friend. it's... religious stuff!

soundtrack to slumdog millionaire is supposed to be quite good, i like some of m.i.a.'s stuff too.

Downloaded Glasvegas debut from last year, very good stuff and a long lost classic from the mid 90's, Whipping Boy's 'Heartworm'. Forgotten what a good album that was.

Heartworm is a true classic! You should check out Whipping Boys two earlier albums.

Vampire Weekend - catchy. Reminds me of the coral in places
    Hold Steady - Springsteinesque
Fleet Foxes - just started listening to this.
TV on the radio - very weird. Hoping its a grower!

Had no idea they had two albums previous. Must check them out. Heartworm is a gem, glad I stumbled upon it again.

The remnants of the Xmas voucher went on................drum roll..........

    Glasvegas
    Fleet Foxes
    Kasabian - Empire

Not got to hear Fleet Foxes yet - so looking forward to that one.

Only got to hear to first 3 tracks of Glasvegas so far and I think its brilliant already!
Very reminiscent of Jesus and Mary Chain and 1988 period House of Love.

The oft panned "Empire" album aint half bad you know...........................especially for €6!

The White Lies album is turning out to be a belter, some really good stuff on it. Can't stop playing Glasvegas too, corker of an album. Franz Ferdinand's new one aint bad either.

What, the one that's not officially out until next Monday?

Had to kill some time in town the other day, so wandered into BPM records and came out with two albums I'd heard a lot about over the last few months but hadn't been in any great rush to buy.
But, TV On The Radio's Dear Science is not bad at all, and will be a real grower I think.
Vampire Weekend is more immediate, not always a great sign, but it seems to be one that will last too.

I've just downloaded a single called "Sweet Disposition" by a band called
The Temper Trap. They are an up and coming Australian band that i heard about on various music blogs.
My first impressions are that its very good.

Glasvegas album is absolute quality - not often you get a band that can produce great music with something worthwhile to say from a lyrics perspective.

Not diggin Fleet foxes though. Not given it much of a chance but my first impression, particularly of the 2nd track in, was that their musical style reminded me of the "New Main Street Singers" from the film "A Mighty Wind"

I noticed there's reviews for Fleet Foxes single called Mykonos out that's not on the album. Is this a sign of another album coming up or just a once-off track?
