I've never given an ironic cheer at a rubbish shot since.

That was a different goal, wasn't it? Bobby Ryan for Bohs in Dalymount.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

The Tery Palmer goal mentioned above was terrific. That final was played in Richmond.

Nope. We were on half way and he took the shot from pretty much just in front of us. September '01, I think it was.

Vinny Arkins via Athlone Town in Tolka Park about 12-15 years ago ( probably when Athlone were last in the Premier Division ). A ball played over the top into the corner ( only a yard from the corner flag ), Vinny raced through and the keeper came out of his box to close him down, the keeper thought twice about it and raced back to his line, Vinny had his back to goal and in one move turned, chipped and curled the ball over the keepers head and into the goal. No TV Camera's there to see it though .

Fabio's goal in the FAI Cup Final where he chipped the keeper from the edge of the box too.

Although it was in the FAI Cup Danny O'Connors goal for us against Cork City. A screamer of a volley in the top corner from 25 yards in the last minute to win the game.

Also a rare goal from Jamesie Farrell for us against I think Kilkenny City in Stephen Kenny's first year in charge of us. Keeper got a rush of blood to the head and chased a ball out to the half way over towards the sideline. Jamesie just beat him to it, rounded him and just before it went out of play swung his boot at it and it took about half an hour to get there but it finally rolled over the goal line!!

Eddie Gormleys from the half way line... absolute belter into the Shed.
i remember Fat Swollen on the Late Late a few weeks after telling anyone who'd listen that if this was scored in England it would have been voted one of the best goals of all time...

Dave Barry against Sligo Rovers (or was it Bohs? my memory is going) in the late 80s/ early 90s at Turners Cross. He got the ball on the half way line and waltzed through the entire opposition defence. A bit like Maradonna versus England!

And for a non city player Brian Mooneys goal against karpaty Lviv a 35 yard stunner wasnt half bad!

Saw Vinny Arkins score an absolute cracker for Rovers in the '94 league winning season at the RDS. He turned onto the ball about thirty yards out and volleyed it into the top corner. Can't remember who we played that day but I'm sure I have it on video somewhere. Maybe it was just the blonde locks but he did bring a touch of glamour to Rovers that season.

Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Fair point - must have been in the early days in the RDS. He moved to St. Johnstone in 1992. Obviously an early onset of Alzheimers! Should have remembered that 94 was the year for Geoghegan and Eviston. Thanks for the correction.
