Agreed on both counts, for the modern era.

Volley from 30 yards John Mc Cormack , BOHS V Harps, `73 and Ashleigh Grimes screamer in the thrashing of Rovers in a cup replay in Milltown `77(?) from the pre bust boom bust boom bust economic cycle.

    Kevin Deery

Kevin Deery has scored some screamers for us. The 2 against Gretna already mentioned, one from the half way line against Shels at Tolka (the 2-2 game where O'Flynn had to go in goal), the one in last years league cup final but my favourite has to be this against Waterford:

The problem there was that Van Boxtel was too busy putting ten spots into cellophane bags to sell after the game, and also was on the mobile at the time organising the next shipment from Colombia.....he couldn't concentrate on the football ffs!!

For some reason the only goal that wont get out of my head right now for City was a Greg O Halloran strike on the half volley from the edge of the area against Pats I think. He was playing at RB and it was into the Shed and was one of those classicly awful Eircom League ties where if one pass was made, the next one was instantly given away. I think simply because it was actually the only bit of quality in the game, it may stand out a bit better then it should in my memory.

Oh and Edit to add Keith Fahey this year against Bohs. This deserves a mention because unlike guys like O Halloran, I get the impression that if Fahey was faced up in the exact same position another 10 times, he would find the back of the net with at least 6 of his shots

Actually, before I get lynched, I should mention Andy Myler's lob from half way against either Finn Harps or Limerick. It was the day after David Beckham's lob against Wimbledon. Course, Neil Sullivan wasn't on the edge of his box doing toe touches at the time...

I know it wasnt in the league but Dave Rogers volley vs Hajduk Split was one of the greatest ones Ive seen.

Paul Finucane scored a stunning volley against me when I was with Dublin City in Richmond in 2005. Any Limerick fans remember that one?!

Certainly do...a sweet left footer from about 25 yards. Not known for his goalscoring was our Paul, but that was a cracker. It was a Sunday evening game too....strange time for a game I thought. Steven O'Flynn got one for us that day too. I was sitting next to Rocky. His face was a picture when Finny smashed that one in.

No your mixing that game up. Was a Saturday evening game. We had Brendan Kennedy and Ray Scully sent off and Colin O Brien scored a last minute penalty. But your definately right about Finucane's effort. I just waved that one goodbye!!

    Ken Oman v Shels.
Even as a Pats fan I have to agree with the Crowe nomination. Stunning goal. To balance the books though I can remember two superb goals by Pats v Bohs - Fahey last season (obviously) and a great team goal, sweeping from one end of the pitch to the other and finished off by Martin Reilly on an ice rink of a Richmond Park pitch when we beat the Bohs, ooh, 5-0 was it ? (Martin scored a hat trick that night too, which was nice.) Still one of the most complete Pats performances I've witnessed. And finally, speaking of goals from the half way line, Eddie Gormley v Sligo at Richmond in 97 or 98 I think.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Tony Kelly for Sligo Rovers against Bohs in the Showgrounds, around about 1997/1998.
    The preverbial screamer.

Also Matthew Judge's goal for Rovers against Cork in the Showgrounds season before last would make any Top Ten list.

Peter Rogers scored an absolute stunner for Kildare from inside his own half against Cobh at Station Road a few year's back. I missed the game in Limerick when Kenny scored so I 'd have to say that is the best goal I saw scored by a Kildare player

Kelly's one, on towards the end of the video.

Sean Dillon got a belter for Longford in United Park cup semi replay a few years ago.
Best from a LOI player (albeit not in the league) has to be Dave Barrys against Bayern.
Brian Mooney scored a craker from 18 yards for Shels against Karpaty Lvov.

Terry Palmer, LFA Cup final at Richmond Park 1995. He tackled the Dundalk forward player on the edge of the UCD box. Full stretch on the ground got up ran through the midfeild with the ball, one - two with Jason Colwell and from inside the Dundalk box. His celebrations were great too.

and for a bunch of goals in one place. Jason Sherlock's hat-trick in the Brandywell Premier Division 1996-97 season. First opposition hat-trick since Derry's introduction to LoI. What an Athlete!

I remember that alright - it was after about 2 minutes. We equalised and outplayed you for the rest of the game only for you to score the winner in the last minute.

Best United goal I've ever seen was by Bobby Ryan at Belfield about 7 or 8 years ago. There was a back pass to Barry Ryan and he kicked the ball from the edge of the area. Bobby was just inside the UCD half on the sideline in front of the stand. The ball came to him about knee-height, he flicked the ball up with his right foot and volleyed it to the top corner of the net with his left as Barry Ryan was trying to get back.

    Unbelievable goal.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"
