The worst chant has to be the preserve of the Clare Gaelic teams
Good job so that Cork wasted no time in shutting them up in the Munster Hurling semi this year. YES!!!!

Aha, but in both cases they're only distorting the name of a county. Now, where I live, the locals when going to the football have a great time buggering up the pronunciation of the name of their country. The way they say it, it sounds just like "Ing-er-lund", but I'm surely wrong...

"Ing-er-lund" etc. is the absolute worst chant I've heard at a football match. Knocks all the others into a cocked hat.

On the subject of the rugby anthem, if there's one song that would work, as it's traditional, non-sectarian and doesn't cause offence, what about "Danny Boy"? Much better than the pitiful "Ireland's Call" IMO.

What about that absolutely s***e tune with the big shout of "England!!" at the end of it. Gets right up my nose.

    ENGLAND

    That one?
No, and it just came to me. It's Vindaloo, hummed like your song there, with a big, annoying shout of "England" at the end. Talk about a s***e song. of course coming from some of that lot, what would you expect.

In fairness to England, they did have the best football song ever with New Order/World in Motion's "E for England" in 1990. What a title. Great times inded.
Few too many 'nas' in there Conor. I'll gladly buy you 8 pints of cider if it'll prevent you singing that thick song. Our song for the 1990 World Cup wasn't all that bad, brings back some great memories too.

Would you believe me if I said that the writer of that particular "song", full-time Cockney Ingerlund-er Keith Allen, is indeed Welsh?

Well, he is. Born in Swansea in 1953. So much for appearances.

No point in saying 'No', I'd only start an argument, so I'll take your word for it. Mr Allen should be shot for subjecting the rest of us football lovers to that crap. On the other hand, it does gives another reason, as if ANY at all were needed, to cheer on whatever team are playing against England.

Ah, Christ Almighty, Beavis; that one's even WORSE. Watched the highlights of England-Denmark last night and was delighted when the Danes managed to shut the smug eejits up. They can REALLY play Denmark-great movement, passing, defending shooting; they FULLY deserved their win.

Keith Allen was also involved in "World in Motion", so he can't be all bad.

If we qualify for a major tournament again, the official song should be an Irishified version, with Kerr doing the John Barnes rap bit.

The English fans singing the national anthem during games is fairly annoying.

And what about Shels fans singing "S...H...E...L...I...S" - what's the story with that?!

IMO, that's just a little show of patriotism that at least some of us would have engaged in at one point or another. It's more God Save the Queen itself which ranks up there as one of the worst national anthems on Earth.

As opposed to the intellectual problem inherent in believing that "rugby" is a "sport"...?

Last time I checked it was a sport.

What would you define it as?
