Quentin Tarantino

Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Connie McHugh Tarantino Zastoupil, a health care executive and nurse born in Knoxville, and Tony Tarantino, an actor and amateur musician who was born in Queens, New York. Tarantino's father is Italian American and his mother is of Irish and Cherokee ancestry. He was raised by his mother, as his parents separated before his birth. When he was two years old, he and his mother moved to Torrance, California, and later to the Harbor City neighbourhood where he went to Fleming Junior High School in Lomita and took drama classes.

Tarantino was perhaps the most distinctive and volatile talent to emerge in American film in the early '90s. Some don't like him but more of them do, he developed a fusion of pop culture and independent art-house cinema where most of his films were thrillers that were outstanding and their clever, twisting dialogue and outbursts of extreme violence lit up the screens.

Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese was nominated for best director five times before receiving an Academy Award for The Departed in 2007. The Departed also won him best director awards from the Golden Globes and the Director's Guild of America. Scorsese's debut feature film, Who's That Knocking at My Door, was released in 1967. Scorsese signed on in May of 2009 to direct a biopic of Frank Sinatra. Several actors being considered to play the lead role in the film are Johnny Depp, James Franco and Leonardo DiCaprio.

This New Yorker is arguably the most influential living filmmaker in America, he has won a heavyweight reputation for seductively stylish, cine-literate works that often examine Catholic themes and intense male relationships.

A sickly child, Scorsese fell in love with the cinema at an early age and went on to study film at New York University. He directed several inventive shorts and two patchy features before making a name for himself with 1973’s Mean Streets, a partly autobiographical tale of family angst, criminal life and spiritual redemption in Little Italy. Characterised by explosive violence, authentic street dialogue, emotive rock music and movie in-jokes and references, the film also featured a breakthrough performance from Harvey Keitel, in a lead role that was almost played by Jon Voight.

Its just a thread with info on various directors, a whos who .... the deleted posts are because i'm gonna add a new post every two weeks or so and i just want to keep them all up top (is that OCD? i dunno).

But sure you could say that about anything. Why bother have any website on cars when manufacturers already have website on them. Why bother have any other online stores when Amazon already sells it. Why bother with this forum when IMDB does everything already. How does anything get popular? Why are there more people using the internet compared with 1995? I take you point onboard but i disagree with it.

I'm not trying to have a go. I think the fact you seem to have a passion for this is quite cool.

Just that I'm with skstu in my bafflement. A thread in a forum is not really the right platform for something like this. In that it doesn't really lend itself to discussion in this format. As blog content it's ideal. Could I suggest that if you're intent on doing this here a more suitable format would be a thread for each director in their own right, as that would open it up for discussion.

Personally I could regale you with a thread on artifical intelligences (from myth to present day), but I don't see much call for it about here.
