    Smile sad news

very sorry to hear this very sad news. a true gentleman and sorted out many
a player in his day. the one that stands out for me was when stenny got injured in the cup final of 1983 . only for jamsie's repair job on stennie we would never have won the cup. god rest his soul.

James, God Rest His Soul, was 84 years of age.
A true gentleman and Sligo Rovers to the back bone.
All his life he was involved with Rovers one way or another and his love for the club knew no boundry. Only a few people in the long history of SRFC can be called legends and James Tiernan is without doubt a member of that chirished club. Truely a sad year for the Bit O' Red bearing in mind earlier this year the club lost another pillar in the form of the great Johnny Chadda. Both James and Johnny were great friends.
Everyone has cherished memories of Rovers and various people such as James, mine would be without doubt, as another poster mentioned, James going down onto the pitch from his seat in the stand on that great day in Dalymount Park in 1983 and attending to the injured Tony Stenson. James worked the magic sponge that day like he did on many occasions before and the rest as they say is history.
A lovely man, a true gentleman with a burning passion for his hometown team.
A new star shines in the heavens tonight.
James has died but his memory will live on in the hearts of the Rovers faithful.
May he rest in peace +

Co-incidentally, The Sunday Times had a feature on Rovers 1983 side today and James is mentioned for fixing Stennie in the Final. Very good feature and unusual to see one done on an Irish team.

    God bless you Jamsie RIP

The story was that stennie got 17 stitches for his shin at half time in '83? Can anyone confirm or deny this?
