To be honest I though neither side showered themselves in glory.
    Willow definately deserved it.

    Useless fact #1647:
Of the 14 players Peters used ... 11 have represented Athlone Town at Senior level.

Willow had 5 former Athlone players (2 on as subs)

Didn't think much of the game as a spectacle but couldn't argue with the result Willow deserved to go through. Sending off changed the game but ref had no option. I hope willow can now go and do one better than peters and win the bloody thing and leave the CCFL to us!

I was at the Willow vs Peters game on sunday and it was a really good battle but you have to hand it to Willow they just have that extra bit of class. I think the problem with Peters is they play to many long balls. Willow always try and pass the ball and can be great to watch and i think they could have a really good run in this cup on the other hand St Peters will find it very hard tho pick themselves up after yet another defeat to Willow. Maybe this could be Peters year to win a league now that they dont have the F.A.I junior cup to go for?????????

They will find it very hard to detrone willow going for three in a row.About the game sunday i heard that peters took off there main goal threat when the game was in the balance strange, and played a system to suit the management. Its hard to play and manage dosn't work in my opinion i know from previous experences alot of players don't like that setup.

Yep, from what I can remember of the lineups Lucas, Craughs and Davy havent played, although Lucas
was briefly in pre season training with the Town this and last season. Other than that: Cabsy, Silky, Scully,
Decky, Sher, Mucka, Rushie, Steven, BC, Paugie & Kellyer have all lined out. (BC came on as sub against Brighton)

For Willow: Ronie, Ga, Craig, Robbie Shine & Showery. Garry McHugh was training with them same time as
BC but cant remember if he got a run out against Brighton.

Garry McHugh and Dave Donohue both played Youth/21's for Town if I'm not mistaken.

Mullingar were leading 1 nil with twenty to go and had a guy sent off for second yellow. Peters had a very questionable peno awarded (awared because several legit cliams were turned down i'd say) and in the aftermath of the peno decesion, mullingar had three further players sent off. At this point they and their Manager were livid. (their manager didn't conduct himslef well at all) from the restart Peters pretty much scored staright away to make it 2-1 and that that point all hell broke lose. It is alledged that an instruction came from the Mullingar bench to get another player sent off so as to have the game called off. Here is where the confusion lies.

    1) one account is the ref heard this and rather than risk a player receiveing a Red card for a tackle or worse he called the game off

    2) a fifth Mullingar player did receive a red for verbal abuse. This ment they could not finish with 6 players.

To me this is tantamount to not turning up to a game and therefore 3 points should be awared to SPFC. SPFC would rather not be in this position however.

The ref had a nightmare - he allowed the mullinagr goal to stand when in fact their penalty taker hit the cross bar but scored on the rebound. this should not have stood as no other player had touched the ball.

Mullingar have good reson to feel agrieved, but the actions of their manager both in his demenour and his instruction to have another player sent off to get the game called off were shameful. Controversey follows the CCFL that's for sure!

yes i can veryify that Fr Damo is actually correct. It was unbelieveable alright, It was a very harsh penalty decision on mullingar as very little contact was made and the defender actually won the ball, the ref was blind sighted on it hence the decision and the reaction from mullingar.
I have never witnessed such discipline from a manager or a club official in all my involvement in soccer.

I guess Mullingar could be down 5 players when they travel to Portlaoise this weekend?
I'm not so sure. The leaue recorded the result as "off". Therefore no result. I guess there will be a hearing as no points were awarded/lost??
In the meantime as no game was played according to the CCFL those players won't be suspened until the hearing is heard and the club receive notification in writing. Normal practice is a player sent gets an automatic one match ban for the next game, any thing above that is in writing. He also remains suspended until the fine is paid. Dunno how much the fines are though........ expensive day out nonetheless.

    Yes it was Tony Ward.

In terms of him being allocated big games...... He's the man who allocates the refs in the midland branch!!

    Ref's

The ref's not just in senior league are shocking but in all the leagues, bar 1 or 2 most of them arent fit enough to ref and dont care either!i said a few weeks ago that they should be embarrased taking money of clubs for it and i stand by that after reading what went on at the weekend.

From what I've been told, from a reliable source, the referee did not hear the
order from the Mullingar bench and the match was abondoned due to them
    having 5 players sent off.

I agree the refs have been poor over the last few seasons. Fitness is a major problem but so too is their attitude. Only one or two are up to the standard required.
I think alot of the guys do the job of referee for the money. One guy i know who did it for a year or two told me the money is great.
On a saturday you can ref 4 schoolboy & one youths game. €160+ in cash by saturday evening. Two adult games then on a Sunday €120. He made a massive hole in the mortgage and this was his sole motavation.

Perhaps a massive drive should be made to identify ex players who understand the game and get these guys to qualify as refs.

I agree that there are only a few Referees up to the Standards from the matches that i have watched!!

Some dont seem to care if their decisions cost matches!! And they have!!

The Referee that was officiating on Sunday in Peters is not up tp the big matches!!
