    Anti-Christmas songs?

Just heard the new one from the Wombats - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqQVf...eature=related - and was wondering what other anti-Christmas songs you know of? Just as an antidote to having to listen Mariah Carey tell me what she wants for Christmas. Again.
Fairytale of New York is probably on the list.
I'd add in Hating You For Christmas - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s70Q...eature=related

Had a couple of the type pop up in my appeal for alternative Christmas tunes thread last year, and they'll be ones that might not otherwise get mentioned, so, off the top of my head:

Malcolm Middleton - Burst Noel (no youtube clip - last fm link here - lyrics here)

Jethro Tull - A Christmas Song (more a song against the materialism of Christmas though)

Half Man, Half Biscuit - It's Cliched To Be Cynical At Christmas (more an anti-anti-Christmas song this one )

    And, of course,
The Wedding Present - No Christmas (purely for the name)

    Oh yes, the Wedding Present.

And I would say all of the Glasvegas Christmas album would fit in here.

Was it the Eels had 'Christmas is going to the dogs'?

LMNOPelican (anyone remember them?) sang about St. Stephen's day, which makes a change from the norm.

What do you define as "Anti Christmas?"

Imagine by John Lennon could come under that category.

    "Imagine there's no Heaven,
    It's easy if you try,
    No Hell below us,
    Above us only sky"

Well if you define something like "All I Want For Christmas" as Christmas, I guess anti-Christmas is something a little more cynical about the holidays, and everything that comes with it. Something Morrissey would be proud of.

Didn't know about a Glasvegas Christmas album but I imagine it would!
It was Eels, yeah. Didn't mention it as I thought it didn't have the right feel even though the sentiments were exactly what was ordered.
And anyway, Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas is way better. It's here, if you don't mind a vid of some bloke practising (actually he's not half bad!)

Now, noby, they don't really exist do they?
Why don't you just sit down here and let the nice man give you a lovely sedative...

    Bah!
I'm hoping razor, or some other Corkonian can back me up here, but I almost definitely didn't imagine them. If I did I somehow managed to imagine an ep of theirs onto tape and into my collection. They also supported the Weddoes in Cork.
They were probably most well known for having their name painted in six foot letters across the front of a building site on Grand Parade.

Glasvegas had the Christmas ep thing written into their contract, which is rather cool. You can buy it online from their website (which I did), or you can buy it repackaged with their album (which I also did).

I don't want to break the rude-word-o-meter but with songs like 'F**k off, f**K off, it's over', it's not quite Misteltoe and wine.

If we're going that direction, there's Mud's 'Lonely this Christmas'.

Or I have a version of Blue Christmas by Porky Pig knocking around at home somewhere - complete with stutters.

Nah I remember the name alright, never heard them though. Seems to be a thing with Cork bands, I'm the only one down here that remembers Beethoven, luckily I have the Him Gooly Gooly Man Dem album somewhere as proof as well. Mind you, they can't remember Stump or Cypress, Mine! either so that's no great shock.

Haven't got Glasvegas' LP yet, so that repackage sounds like something Santy could well be bringing.

LMNO Pelican did indeed exist, and not a bad band either. I think they were originally called Fred (no relation to the current band Fred, as far as I know), but changed to LMNO Pelican for some reason.

An excellent radio documentary on Donnelly from Beethoven is available for download here-

I do, though I don't remember much of their stuff.
Was there a link between them and Emperors of Ice cream?

Stann, I went to buy the album two weeks ago and they were selling the repackaged double for cheaper than the original album.

A search for LMNO Pelican throws up several support slots, and mention of a Boutros Boutros ep. This doesn't ring a bell with me - although I can't recall the name of the ep I have (and I'm not going to the attic now).

I have Boutros Boutros (red and yellow cover) on vinyl and alot of the other stuff on cassette tape. Yeah, they were called Fred initially but they had to change the name as there was a band called Fred in the states i'm sure.
