    Lightbulb Building Houses

Lots of people do it so might be handy to have a thread on it.

    www.thermohouse.ie

Saves on insulation and is A3 rated so it ends up cheaper in the long run.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

That site is no fun. I want to see house plans and layouts so I can imagine how it will look when I win the euromillions tonight and build one!

This is more like it! http://www.century.ie/cent/cip_results.asp?type=ECO

Have to give the sponsors a plug dont I?!

I've built one house, and don't intend on ever repeating it. Actually I must finish this one still (in it 5 years and counting).

MM, no offence to your sponsors, but they turned their noses up at individual houses eight years ago, even though they have a local office. Perhaps they can't be as choosy these days.

Oh and I could show you a house plan, but it's hardly the house you'll build when you're a gazzillionaire.

I have my dream house planned already noby but want to build it eco-friendly.

Maybe they were very busy at the time Noby. I know they were flat out up here.

They were flat out here as well, to be fair. But if you didn't want one of their standard design bungalow they weren't interested. Funny, because their main rival, LJM (is there a family connection?) were willing to travel down the length of the country and undercut everyone just to get one over them. We ended up going with neither.

IJM (Irish Joinery Monaghan), yeah brother of the former owner of Kingspan Century. AFAIK they started out as one company and had a falling out many moons ago so brother left and set up Century Homes. Dundalk's main sponsors for last few years too.

That's the one. We sent the plans for a quote, and when they saw the address they obviously were determined to beat Century.

We had grand ideas/plans when starting out, but a really good local architect soon grounded us. While he likes to be creative, he still realises that reality kicks in, and you have to be able to afford the house he designs, so there were plenty of compromises, but we're still happy with the result.

A colleague's house going up in two days.

(Actually it ultimately took three, because of local incomptence. That would be in-line with the two Huf-style houses on Grand Designs.)

Most of the prefabricated houses come from Germany. Incredibly efficient.
