Welcome Mervue. Looking forward to our trip out that way.

Don't want to come across as an a$shole, but I think this could impact football in Galway negatively. The city definately does not have the population to sustain to 2 LOI clubs and this will ultimately split potential support. Mervue are a sucessful amature club and should stay in the amature leagues. I hope they dont run into financial difficulty as junior football in the city needs them.

Yep, find it hard to see a positive in this. Galway have struggled enough as it is without the added complication of another LOI club on their doormat. Clearly Mervue can't be denied their spot on sporting merit, and good luck to them for having the liathroidi to take this challenge on; but overall it can't be a good thing for football in the region. It's ironic that the pyramid system has produced this anomaly. The pyramid is now two-headed in Galway.
Makes no odds on the conditions of Fahys Field cos they'll be playing in
Terryland if they get a licvence. In return Fahys Field will be used by the Galway & District Football League for unnderage finals or something like that.
Galway and Mervue will use Terryland on alternative weekends.
Thats the deal being mooted by Mervue anyway.

As Ash has said, having the use of Mervue's facilities(astroturf/pitches) for representative team's training and matches as well as maybe the odd local final I imagine would offset a lot of the cost. Galway United have nothing to their name with which to barter with.
United also have the use of temporary office space in Terryland, and advertising hoardings at the ground. I'd imagine that any rent paid by Mervue would be lower than the figure paid by GUFC.

Well best of luck to Mervue, it's great too see a junior club making the step up, and I'm a Salthill Devon man by the way.
Not sure how it will all turn out though. They will probably hold their own on the pitch but there is so much to organise off pitch. I think they plan to use Fahys Field but it has to be developed first. Probably will only get a couple of hundred and some of them will be Mervies who would normally got to terryland so GUFC might lose a few punters along the way.
when we joined the league we had no floodlights for a few games i think we had temp seats for the majority of the season and we initially played sunday afternoons, sure mervue can get around this at least temp, till something permanent put in place so they can use there own ground, good luck see you next season
this is like a joke but without a punchline, galway need the support of the league not a kick in the teeth like this,Mervue is a housing estate,a housing estate with a junior football team the same as a thousand others around the country, pure desperation from the LOI looking to add a team to the league, best of luck to mervue but still a joke,
Agree that their promotion will negatively impact United, but the simple fact is they were good enough to qualify for promotion and so deserve their shot. Players will play on amateur terms, and to be honest, if it goes ti.ts up, they can always pull out so you can't blame them for accepting invite to apply for licence.
