Not taking anything away from Cork City but surely it's to do with the fact that their the only club in a big city. IMO their attendances should be higher. If there was only ever two clubs in Dublin then IMO they would both have a bigger fan base than Cork City

true but the population of Dublin is about 4-5 times more than cork city's and there is 6 clubs in Dublin (3 1st division next season) unless you count all of cork county which would make it nearly half of Dublins population.

It is true we dont get as many per head of population as some towns like Sligo Dundalk but we are up against really good Cork Hurling, GAA football, Munster Rugby and Basketball.

We played a Home games against Rovers on a tuesday night (normally one of our biggest gates) but it was a Munster home coming after the Heinekin Cup win and i dont think there was 2,000 at the game. If that game was on a Friday night with nothing else on i would have expected 4,000-5,000 at the game

Agreed, and it's great for the league. I would expect Dublin clubs in that situation to get higher atendances

Yes, we don't lose a game for months!!

I don't want to even attempt to order the league in terms of 'big clubs', Cork would be up there though.

Considering it is the second biggest city in the country and no other premier team compete with in the city I'd expect bigger crowds.
Maybe someday city might be considered the biggest club in the country, but just not yet.
Expand meant discuss my query, and your arguement is baseless. Having said that, I'm not proclaiming that we're the biggest.

I have to agree there, but the same can be said for most, if not all other clubs. And attendance-wise we do have a big advantage due to population.

When Cork are playing a big match in Europe, most Cork people will know about it and support them because a lot of them feel the football team (just like the the GAA teams) are representing their city. There's no comparison with the Dublin teams.

Maybe cork are now with regard to attendances, but from tradition/honours won, its hard to look past rovers/bohs/shels/dundalk/pats

I think the honours list are in this order for the top 5 - derry not included as this is taken over the period from the foundation of the lge in 1926 to present

PS you could argue for sheer size and honours that linfield would be the no 1 club in all of ireland - but thats for another days argument
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).

An example of why it's good to have students amongst the league's support....

If we could get every Cork team in the history of the league reformed and playing together we would have loads of huge teams.

I reckon the next Cork team that gets formed will be even bigger than this current one.

Big big team this Cork lads.

Wasn't really around for all the other clubs myself (apart from Hibs when I was a youngun) so I can't answer for them - however when we faced our toughest crises yet this year the supporters played their part in keeping the show on the road - maybe we can call it quits and say we are the biggest crises club in the country (this year anyway).

but didnt rovers fans do just as good, if not better job with there club, which seems to be doing nicely now, and looks fairly steady, cork is yet to be determined,

you couldnt say whos the biggest, how far are derry off corks attendances, and they were in 2 cup finals one of which they won,

it takes a lot more than fans to make a club a big club
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Stupid argument. Bohs are obviously the Biggest club. They have won most leagues, most cups, have the most fans, the biggest bars, the biggest legal fees, the smallest manager and every other club are Minnows compared to them.
So if you think Bohs are big read this. http://www.astronomy.ie/perpespective.html

They are so powerful they even managed to overturn the laws on land ownership that have been in place for millenia and succeeded in selling the same piece of land twice.....
