Can anyone give me a dig out concerning formatios, structure and the training of structure for a team. Sounds mad but in theory and on paper an experimental formation of 3-1-3-1-2 looks really good for the type of players we have. Has any1 ever tried this??? again i say on paper and i know an over emphansis is placed on formations but the 4-4-2 doesnt work as our midfield just can't seem to gel, 3-5-2 my ideal formation doesn't work as our wing backs are not strong enough and the oul 4-5-1 does not produce enough goals for us although very good defensively. Any 1 got any ideas??
Jock is right....That formation you explained is only a glorified 4-1-4-1 formation..The player playing in the the hole is going to sit back on top of the midfield, in accordance with your teams' strength, and the same applies to the engine room worker sitting back on the defenders to make it a flat back four.
Sounds to me as if you should pack the midfield, therefore keeping it tight at the back and playing on the loose ball and counter-attacking football, thus earning the 3 points in the old traditional way and , more importantly, keeping your job safe for another week![]()

My personal opinion on formations is not many clubs at top level use 3-5-2 anymore the only team i knew that did it for years was Celtic basically cause the standard wasn't of the greatest they could get away with it and they had two fast wing backs in Agathe and moloney etc to help them out.
Most teams prefer the 4 at the back for the stability with the full backs have pace to attack as well as defend, it then varies from midfield on with a straight flat four , a diamond four etc... i personally think the formation that will allow you vary to your ideas of playing would be the 4-5-1 and if you want to be more attacking through the match push either attacking midfielder up to have 2 up front or push your wingers up and create 4-3-3 formation... as most teams now do at top level

Thanks Joc,
I agree with you that the 4-5-1 is the best suited formation but attacking through my two wingers would not really be an option as although they are extremely quick they just won't attack, they are too defensive. I've worked on it again and again but to no avail. In regards to pushing the attacking midfielder on i just think it still lacks the bite we're looking for. The idea of 3-1-3-1-2 was that when attacking the chosen two, defensive mid and attackin mid move up a position and while defending they drop back allowing 4-4-2. Defensive acts as a Makelle in front of three then slots in to form a back four, the attacking mid moves up to support the strikers. The two strikers play up but a small bit wider and thus creating space for the centre mid to burst through. Again good on paper but it match siyuation i dont know. all comes down to discipline on the park and knowledge of positions. Leaves exposed on wings tho
again thanks for the input jock, off hand you don't know anywhere i'd be able to get my hands on some drills for structure and formations. id be eager to get it done so we can concentrate on it over the crimbo break as we all know we'll hardly be playing between now and then.
Sorry i wouldn't but i remember teaching golf to a well known manager in limerick and he was going through UEFA coaching badges and he showed me the stuff he was doing very interesting, i say its like golf you want to develop and learn start from the basics and work up, i would recommend starting the uefa/fifa badges of coaching it will help you in the long run its very hard to get a quick fix and it normally falls flat on your face in the end.
