    Dolan slams Gill treatment

    November 28, 2008

Former eircom League of Ireland manager Pat Dolan has hit out at Premier Division newcomers Dundalk for their treatment of boss John Gill. Gill has yet to part company with the newly-promoted Lilywhites but his position is becoming increasingly untenable as the club weighs up the possibility of dispensing with his services and appointing a replacement.

And Dolan – former manager of St Patrick’s Athletic and Cork City and frank pundit with Setanta Sports and the Irish Daily Star - has described the club’s failure to reward their manager as “incredible”. In his newspaper column on Friday, he wrote: “Let’s take the current Dundalk managerial saga, turn it into a DVD and it’ll top the comedy charts. “They have failed to reward John Gill for his magnificent achievement of winning promotion – but insist that he is still in with a shout of landing the job. Incredible.”

To be fair Dolan is talking from experience there, having been fired from every managerial job he has had in the country. Pats and City couldn't get rid of him fast enough. The guy is a tool of the highest order thinking his opinion would carry some weight in this issue.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

My favourite part about this is that the best picture eleven-a-side.com could find was this:

In fairness to Dundalk, they're saying Gill is the most likely to get the job. They're looking for new ideas and want to do their best to ensure that they don't do a Cobh. It's only fair really. If Gill goes in and shows them he's got a good plan he'll get the job. Better than letting him do a bad job for a year and then firing him if they get relegated.
We tend to believe that words enable thought. But words can also substitute for thought.
