thats interestin whats longfordian said.. i heard differently that vinny , cawley and place was in the running. brendan place played a season for us in the 86/87 season. he also played for athlone town and monaghan utd. I am not sure what he has done all those years..alan gough is an interestin name .. hes from ballinasloe was coach at galway and bray. did commentary on rte on our first cup final. considering one of our commitee is very friendly with gough i would go for gough now..

should know more tonight after the supporters club draw.. maybe the new boss will be on show to press the flesh as aaron did in pvs last year..

Alan Gough was Bray SC player of the year, wish Alan & Longford all the best if they give him the job, top professional IMO.

heard last night at the draw that there was five of them in the running for the final interview. gough , cawley, cronin, perth and place. we should expect white smoke over the next day or so. my source said that he was impressed with place but cant see him getting it due to his lack of experience. I really hope vinny gets it he deserves it totally. i had written him off but yet again he has proven me wrong again..

go vinny do it for the section o!

Yeah just heard that a few minutes ago. Interesting appointment. It's a pity Vinny didn't get a shot at it but Gough should be hungry to do well anyway. He has a long and successful playing caeer behind him too. I was saying all along I'd prefer a young manager setting out to prove himself. He knows what he's getting himself into anyway so here's hoping.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Alan Gough (born 10 March 1972 in Watford) is an Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper.

His clubs included Portsmouth FC, Galway United, Fulham FC, Shelbourne FC, Glentoran FC and Derry City FC.

Gough began his career initially as an apprentice with Portsmouth before moving to Ireland with Galway United. After eighteen months with Galway, he joined Shelbourne, with whom he spent five highly successful seasons. In July 1999, Gough made the switch to Glentoran and had an excellent first season, winning three winners medals in the process. He was in terrific form in the Irish Cup Final and played a large part in the victory. He finished his career as team-captain at Galway United at the end of the 2006 season but continued to play in 2007 as an emergency goalkeeper as well as his assistant manager role. On 31 March 2008, he was sacked from Galway United along with the rest of the management team.

He won numerous major honours both north and south of the Irish border. They include five under-21 international caps with the Republic of Ireland in the early 1990s, youth caps, FAI Cup medals and League Cup medals.

On 22 May 2008 he was signed by Bray Wanderers F.C. as a player.[1]

Best of luck to Goughie in his new role. He's a GUFC legend.
