Paddy Power didn't accuse anyone of anything in relation to the event. If they had, that's where they really would have lost money...

i really dont think des went in and said "im not gona sign anyone from dublin, only players from the country"...i think he was talkin about having the players, once good enough from anywhere willing to give the commitment, training in longford and having all team activities based in longford instead of what went on last year with vinney with having half the players training in dublin and the other half training in longford...and what was said about philip above is not far wrong, believe me,personal experience...heres hoping that the right man is picked for the job..

Philip Coffey won't get it, well I don't know that but I'd be very surprised if he did. He's done nothing of note in his previous positions. I've no idea who will but Des Cawley has wanted the job since Aaron got it and has made a good few connections down here. I'm not saying that's a bad thing by the way. I don't really know him well enough to know what sort of manager he'd be but I wouldn't be surprised to see him appointed. For what it's worth I thought Vinny did a decent job overall and some people are very quick to forget all he's given to this club. He's a thoroughly decent guy. Whoever gets it I'll give them a chance anyhow. It won't be easy for them.

People are very quick to knock vinny which in my opinion is very wrong ! He has done a great job considering his lack of experiance and qualifications as a coach. I think the club should have stuck by him and helped him to get his qualifications rather than start all over again with another new manager and another whole new squad of players ! To me this is a backward step and again it will be a season where the club will be at the wrong end of the table with a squad that does not know each other. Is the same thing going to happen at the end of next season ? I know the money is not there to pay players a wage but from talking to alot of players they would have settled for expenses and bonuses just to secure a place with the club but now that they have not been told what the future is for them they are looking for or have found new clubs - this also reflects badly on the club as I know from experiance that in non-league football come the end of the season you know if you'll be back the following season or not ! You would expect a league club at least (no matter how bad the finances are) to know for sure some of the players that will be kept !!! For a club that supposidly wants to get back up to the level of past success of a few years ago it is time to start been a little bit more professional in how things are run. From this time last year it has been - One step forward and two steps back ! One manager hired and squad assembled and TWO managers gone and a squad torn apart again !

Just a word on Andy Bermingham, I also heard that he was asking around the CCFL clubs in Longford but from what i hear there is not much interest in him !! He is looking to leave The Town from what I heard.

Don't understand the Vinny knocking either to be honest as I said in my above post. There's a good few committee changes this year though so it's their choice maybe they want a new man. Different strokes for different folks!. Personally I reckon we need a younger manager on the way up rather than one on the way down. Bermingham has a contract with us for next year as far as I'm aware. He'd be on a wage too. Maybe he just wants to keep fit, who knows?. His attitude isn't the Mae West by all accounts which is a shame as he has definite talent.

Vinny Perth is a Town legend and that will always remain the case. Like in his playing days, what he may lack in certain ways he makes up for in passion. He's a very honest bloke.

I concur with Longfordian on the need for a young hungry manager. There'll never be another Stephen Kenny but someone cut from a similar cloth would be fantastic. I hope there's someone in the frame who brings the same intelligent, calculated approach with a fondness for the club.

did andy not sign a 2 year contract???could be just lookin to keep fit...and if he doesn have a 2 year contract then he would have had to ask for a releasse because to take a step down and play area league he would need a release from the town and fai...

He'd need a release to sign for anyone alright and he did sign a two year contract at the start of last season from memory. As I said above he has a lot of ability and if he gets his head down he can make a career for himself at a higher level than the First Division.

No, he was on a small wage last season too I think. It was thought it'd be in the club's best interest as if he developed as well as he could they'd be able to get compensation for him should he leave as he'd have been on pro forms for two seasons. I was just thinking if he were to drop down to CCFL level and play he might not be able to come back up to Eircom League level again until July as was the case with Shane Harte this year.

As far as I'm aware he approached Sean but he turned him down due to college committments

ANY League of Ireland player that drops down to a CCFL or any other non-league team now can not play LOI until the 1st of july 2009. A player signed for a non-league team since the start of the season (Aug 08) can get a release to move to the LOI during the January transfer window. Punishment for breaking these rules are a 6 month ban for the player plus a points deduction for the team involved. These rules were brought in to stop players playing non-league for 2 or 3 months to help their local teams get an unfair advantage. These rules apply for u-20 and "A" League teams also !

now thats a surprise that .. mind you he has some coaching experience from his days at bray and galway. i would safely assume des cawley and gareth cronin will be other two candidates.. i am not sure on tony cousins... would have cawley because of his standing within the club already.. i dont think vinny has a chance of getting it to be honest

Dont think Gareth Cronin is in the running from what I hear. Apparently he wanted a big budget to work with. Why he applied in the first place I don't know since the world and its dog knew we have no money to be spending.

I suspected this would happen. It's even more strange given the all candidates were told what the budget was as soon as their applications were received. I reckon he was hoping to alert other clubs to his availability.
