is this the same philip coffey that was interviewed for the town job??
heard phillip coffeys name being mentioned is he the youth coach with us or sligo rovers? heard alan gough terry cochrane and dave rogers applied but whether they were interviewed is a different matter..
from what i heard this weekend dessie cawley is the strong favourite for the job he has shown up well in the interview he does not want to sign anyone from dublin just around the sligo galway midlands area.. plus as well i have heard two old favourites of ours may come back to the club he has spoken to them already and they have said they will come back if cawley gets it.. one of them played in the legends match and is out of eircom league football at present the other plays for camlin utd.,

Celebrating 130 Years of Athlone Town Football Club - Pride of the Midlands Since 1887
no peter malone and larry mullins are the youth managers, phil was the under 21 manager last yer then left to go to galway, bit of a kn*b to be honest...would be a diaster if he gets it...des is a quality coach, really is..philip actually bought des in for the last few under 21 matches last season, both after the same job now...
We gave the so called local talent a shot at the start of lastseason and it doesn't work, if players wanna play then it shouldnt matter where they are from aslong as they are good enough. Im afraid we are gonna have a very similar season to last year all round.
local players "givin a chance" last season were andy birmingham and stevie brennan, dont think they did too bad now throughout the season now do any of you??
They did very well and were some of our best players when not injured. As for some of the former Athlone rejects...
Roddy Collins, the biggest <insert as appropiate> in Irish Football.
By local it is referring to the midlands and surrounding areas so you can throw a whole load of players into that, but stephen brennan is no where near good enough for the 1st division and you never know which andy bermingham will show up and play. Go through last years squad and ask yourself who is good enough to keep, you will be pushed to find many of them being local.
I'm just talking to someone who used to be managed and coached by Phillip Coffey and he says he is a ignorant c*nt and he would be a disaster as a manager because the players would hate him.
I am with Tallanted on this, who ever is good enough and willing to accept the wages should be signed and it doesn't matter where they are from.
As for a new manager, maybe the board need to think outside the box as they did with Stephen Kenny.
Looking at the previous posts I can take it another year of horrific football is on the way, so I suppose we are looking at the 8th-12th positions in the First and anything else being a bonus ..... now where did i put that whiskey and the revolver
On the matter of a manager the club must decide if they want to move on back to been a success again or just sit at the bottom of the 1st division and in my opinion that is where we will be with most of the names i see on here !!
Finally I don't give a damn if players are from Tallaght or Timbucktoo once they give 100% in EVERY game ! In my opinion 99% of the players in Longford are more interested in the drink, drugs and getting the leg over than playing at a high standard of football which is why no manager wants to take a chance on bringing them into the team.

De groot nummer 10
We'll see who's appointed but I wouldn't be appointing anyone based on the fact that they won't sign any Dublin players. It's about getting the best value for money, considering we don't have any money I wouldn't be expecting much no matter who gets the job.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
There was so many dublin players last season that there was split training sessions, which didnt help morale in the squad, what des cawley should be looking for is a bit of balance in both(if he gets the job). You guys are making it seem like he has some sort of vendetta against dublin players, which i dont think he has.
Well looking at those who have meant to applied Gareth Cronin stands out as the best choice although the committee will decide and depends on what players can be brought in and for how little they cost in wages.
Any rumours of anyone signing ....................
humm, best choice?im not too sure,4th in his last season with waterford, with what would have been a relatively high budget for the first division, how well could he do with a small budget at longford......
What happened to Vinny perth...thought he did well in his caretaker role???
Vinny perth wasnt accused of anything, thats an absolute disgraceful post and i would suggest you remove it and get your facts straight before posting such sh1te
