I've heard rumours, but tend to treat them as just that given the history.
I happened to meet the loveable Danny Drew ex-owner of our lovely club and now of Kildare County fame a few days ago, and he informed me that he's “been talking to Jack McCarthy about buying the club through a shelf company, and the sooner the better”. I laughed this off, given the source, but at the FAI Cup final yesterday I was at the hospitality do organised by the FAI and a few senior people there confirmed Jacks interest in selling. They also pointed out that the club has not paid its CEO and GM in several weeks.
Whats going on? I thought things were looking up financially? This would be a disaster if that scrote got back involved with the club. Trev, Joesoap, SLK, anyone in the know hear anything about this?![]()
I've heard rumours, but tend to treat them as just that given the history.
Heard this too. Not the Drew part but the rest of it. Hope its not true.
The club was a jokeshop, thankfully isn't any more and my belief that McCarthy was a smokescreen and a figurehead looks more and more to be the case now. Frankly its none of your business as to what my opinions are, and I'm not so much worried about him going as opposed to who buys him out (DD). Be as sarky as you like Monkfish, I couldn't care less. I'm merely passsing on what I have heard, and it seems others have heard it too.
And for what its worth, I've supported Limerick football in all its guises for well over 40 years, and played for the club in the mid 1970's, so don't talk to me about 'worrying'...I've just as much if not more of a right as you do.
lads heard from a good source hes interested in selling up but wants a good offer and to leave the club in sound hands
Wakey wakey! Everyone is already aware of the Jack situation, but your just starting and spreading rumours cause you've no eggs to chase. What was it last year? oh thats right the whole 'Kerley is gone or will be gone' story.
And dont worry, most of us on here already know exactly who you are.![]()
Has anyone from the Supporters Club gone directly to the top to have this checked out? If it is a rumour, then who gives a rats ass, but if there is more to it then it could be detrimental to the continuing success on the field. A new regime would probably have their own ideas and people and that might mean change, and stability is whats required right now, not change.
I'm sure the recent economic downturn in the US didn't help Jacks coffers, and maybe he is looking for a quicker return on his investment than he originally predicted. I am sure he has recorded a personal loss since taking over, and perhaps is panicking. However if he is a shrewd as people say he is, then surely he would stick around for one more season as I believe promotion is a real possibility. That would open the doors to average gates of over 1000, greater merchandising sales and a chance to make the club a very marketable brand.
Surely thats what he should be thinking about....not walking away from potential.
Cheers. Didn't know that.
hope these rumours are'nt going to be knocking around for the next 3 months.Just when we seemed to have some stability these start again. Would be helpful for everyone if someone from the club made an offical statement to confirm or deny this. Not good for drumming up support from local business.

In the chronicle today it states that jack has lost €150,000 this season and the club are looking for signifigant investment. also states limerick want to double there wage bill from €2,250 to €4,500 and this is another reason for the need for investment. CEO Mawhinney states that "Jack can't afford to pour more money inot the club".
Thats the main bits of it from when I glanced at it today. I'm open to correction on anything tho.
Just read that article on line.your spot on with those figures Timmy.€150,000 is a big hit and the current financial climate is'nt going to make Jack throw too much more money our way. Doubling the wage bill seems a bit much though. How a big a squad are they planning for next season?

I see where your coming from but if the club had to do this for every rumour that does the rounds regarding the club (and believe me theres enough knobheads around this town spreading them) they would get nothing done other than issue statment after statement.
Good to see a thread regarding what is at the moment a rumour, getting more attention than the one regarding our end of season awards night.(and yes, im well aware iv contributed to this
)

Agree with that, Limerick wanted someone to help make sure we had a senior football team which he did and he has said all season there is only so much money he can put in and that he needs the business community to get behind him and invest. Hopefully some business' will see its worth backing the club and will invest, tough few months ahead for Judge, Mawhinney and co.
Agree with you there100%, but i think another year with his full support would have solidified the club more.A good start to the season without all this will he wont he b******t would set the club up nicely. We all saw the improvement in crowds towards the end of the season and i really think an average home gate of around 1000 is achievable with a good start.
And best of luck on Friday night. Was going to go myself but my daughter(who's on the ladies team) had a hizzy fit, thought i'd be spyin on her!
As if![]()

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
There's more chance of me buying the club.
A rare moment of clarity Mr. Wizard.I laughed this off, given the source,
Just what did the record for "Number of leeches in a room" end up finally being set at??but at the FAI Cup final yesterday I was at the hospitality do organised by the FAI
You're either slightly but crucially twisting someone words to suit your own ends here or you were lied to.and a few senior people there confirmed Jacks interest in selling.
The dogs in the street know this. They also pointed out that the club has not paid its CEO and GM in several weeks.
Fairplay to them.
Congrats on a woeful attempt at $hit stirring.
The amount of people who struggle with basic maths astounds me at times it really does.Whats going on? I thought things were looking up financially?
SLK only knows what I tells him.Trev, Joesoap, SLK, anyone in the know hear anything about this?
Is this based on anything other than the delusions in your head and some third hand garbage you misheard from some suit at a junket??
You do realise how stupid this looks, given that you're posting your opinions on a public forum right??Frankly its none of your business as to what my opinions are
It's a thundering disgrace that you got a cup winners medal "Muckles", a disgrace.played for the club in the mid 1970's
You'd some cheek showing up at the 25th anniversary aswell.
But then, you only have to ask the dogs in the street to know about you....
Absolute toss.I've just as much if not more of a right as you do
No fewer than four Supporters Club members are on the clubs board.
"Muckles" obviously does.If it is a rumour, then who gives a rats ass
Don't believe the hype joebut if there is more to it then it could be detrimental to the continuing success on the field.
Major, wholesale change is needed asap if the club is to go forward. Would have thought that blatantly obvious.A new regime would probably have their own ideas and people and that might mean change, and stability is whats required right now, not change.
As am I.I'm sure the recent economic downturn in the US didn't help Jacks coffers
Return on Investment??and maybe he is looking for a quicker return on his investment than he originally predicted.
This is Limerick football club we're talking about!! Two hopes of that happening at the moment and one of them has been dead a few years now.
Of course he has. A pretty hefty one by the average joesoaps standards (wow, what a terrible pun)I am sure he has recorded a personal loss since taking over
I'd say he has made bigger losses at the track.and perhaps is panicking.
No one shrewd gets involved in LoI football to make money. Come on now joe. However if he is a shrewd as people say he is,
We're not going to get promoted next year because the cash isn't there.then surely he would stick around for one more season as I believe promotion is a real possibility.
F A C T
Would the club be profitable at this level?? Of course it wouldn't. Have a look round the league. That would open the doors to average gates of over 1000, greater merchandising sales and a chance to make the club a very marketable brand.
Surely thats what he should be thinking about....not walking away from potential
Off the top of my head, I'd say you could nearly double it.
Two hopes. One Dead. See above.also states limerick want to double there wage bill from €2,250 to €4,500 and this is another reason for the need for investment.
Not strictly true I'd imagine but the result for us is all the same.CEO Mawhinney states that "Jack can't afford to pour more money inot the club".
It's never "worth" backing a LoI club. If they are willing to be philanthropic than hooray for us but I'd say money is a bit thin on the ground these days......
*I'd just like to put a disclaimer at the end of this post. I am in no way involved in the club or the club committee. I have, however, been to every game this season, have a brain, have eyes and keep my ear close to the ground. I can bet you all I have a far better idea of the shape the club is in than "Muckles" above.
Seriously lads, "Muckles" comes on here looking for All Blacks tickets and when he gets tole where to go, he coes back on a few days later with a whinge made up of lies, rubbish, stuff the dogs in the street know, sticky-back plastic and pva glue and the forum goes into meltdown?? Meanwhile I'd say you could count the number of tickets sold for the awards dance with the fingers of both hands.....................
