    Black and White Films

    Raging Bull - 1980

Some people sweat that this is the best film every made because of the acting and storyline. They may have a point, its definitely in my top ten anyway. A must see if only for the opening scene in the film.

An emotionally self-destructive boxer's journey through life, as the violence and temper that leads him to the top in the ring, destroys his life outside it. When Jake LaMotta steps into a boxing ring and obliterates his opponent, he's a prizefighter. But when he treats his family and friends the same way, he's a ticking time bomb, ready to go off at any moment. Though LaMotta wants his family's love, something always seems to come between them. Perhaps it's his violent bouts of paranoia and jealousy. This kind of rage helped make him a champ, but in real life, he winds up in the ring alone.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

    There's so many great B&Ws.

Some one's that stick out in my mind:
    Night of the Hunter
    To Kill A Mockingbird
    The Maltese Falcon
    Nosferatu
    Some Like It Hot
The Apartment (?, another Billy Wilder & Jack Lemmon one)
    Extratime.ie

Yo te quiero, mi querida. Sin tus besos, yo soy nada.

Abri o portão de ouro, da maquina do tempo.

Mi mamá me hizo guapo, listo y antimadridista.

It's hard to hide your every little flaw when the resolution is high enough to pick out skin pores during close ups.

Saw Clerks for the first time last night. Have to say after hearing so much about how it's a 'cult classic' I was pretty disappointed with it. It's dated badly, the acting was for nothing and it wasn't that funny.

Maltese Falcon is great, although good luck making sense of the rather convoluted storyline, and Casablanca is one of my favourite films ever.
I have the Seventh Seal on DVD tonight, should be a nice contrast to Clerks. That said, like Citizen Kane and the Godfather, it's one of those films whose 'greatness' can easily overshadow your enjoyment of the film. And also, when you're seeing a film like it for the first time you keep seeing scenes that you'r more familiar with from the Simpsons!

I think the Maltese Falcon makes a lot of sense at the end.

Mentioned above already but just watched 12 Angry Men. 95% of the film in one room & well worth a look.

Watched Sunset Boulevard for the first time yesterday and I'd second that nomination too. Saying it's excellent doesn't really do it justice to be fair

Days of Wine and Roses I'd say. Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick?
    Good show.
Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf is better though.

I'm a big fan of these films, almost of all above mentioned. So I wouldn't like to repeat, but apparently you forgot:
