I hope thats just clumsy phrasing and that you are not accusing me of making a racist remark.

feargal - no not that u made a remark that was racist. i was referring to the context in which u used the word racist.

That comment backs up the theory that it is idiots like you who keep our great league down. You have no idea what it is to be a football fan, you are merely a minor percentage on the ratings sheet on some British tv executives desk.

For the second time in this thread you appear to be misreading what I post. Take a deep breath, concentrate, and then have another go....

So after 35 (now 36) posts on this issue, I see nobody stepping forward to complain to UEFA (or our national newspaper "of record").

I have to conclude that there are some who get upset by booing at football matches, except when its directed at Irish players.

    Happy Hallow'een!

So why don't you 'step forward' yourself besides waiting for someone else to do it for you?

and I have to conclude that you probably think the booing in Landsdowne of Rangers/ex players is "harmless" but you have a bee in your bonnet about what happened at Ibrox.

if you look at the Irish Times letters page you will note that the people who wrote in some months ago saying that it was "ok to boo" Rangers players in Lansdowne and that it was neither "sectarian" or "racist" are the same people who are complaining about the treatment of Keane/O'Shea at Ibrox and wondering why others aren't complaining

My point is that the people who gave out about the booing at Landsdowne were totally silent on what happened at Ibrox. Therein lies the hypocrisy.

and it's been pointed out in return that the booing during the 'battle of britain' pales in comparison to what goes on in other european countries during CL games, which you have no knowledge of.

all the arguments that were applied by the ok2boo lobby about the booing in landsdowne (they play for rivals we're in competition with etc.) can be applied here without having your tongue wedged firmly in your cheek.

Rio was booed because he's been in the papers over a missed drugs test, roy keane because he is a celtic fan who wants to finish his career at parkhead, plotting the downfall of rangers (not simply because he was irish). O'shea was briefly booed by the same breed of idiot who booed averladze and lovenkrands, the last case is genuinely disturbing.

but the actions of those rangers fans bothers the majority of posters here much less than when those same actions were carried out by ourselves, Irish supporters who have long built a good reputation wherever we travel.

a lack of interest in the SPL isn't hypocrisy, chastising us on our inaction, while doing nothing yourself might just be.

Ehm... as it was me who brought up what happens in other european games, how can you say its something I have no knowledge of!

I'm impressed by your ability to get inside the mindset of your average Rangers fan. Pity you don't know seem to know your fellow Irish supporters to the same degree.

Again, reading the original posts often helps. My charge of hypocrisy is reserved to those who are upset by what happens to Averladze and Lovenkrands but don't seem bothered when O'Shea and Keane suffer worse treatment.

The reason, as I stated before why I would have nothing to do with a LOI club has nothing to do with the quality of football on show and everything to do with the narrow minded mob that attend games and indeed post here!
I believe that factor for alot of people probably has more to do with the lack of enthusiams for the LOI among the general public rather than any marketing by foreign leagues could ever achieve.
The problem with the LOI isnt me its you!

    Hypocrits the lot of ye!

He should come to UCD so!

that, in my experience, is a load of b*llox.
any time I've asked someone why they don't attend LOI football, I'm told it's because it's ****e third rate football.
no one ever said it's because of narrow minded mobs.

I've been to (relatively few) LoI/EL matches in Ireland and the odd EL club game abroad. I've even seen Derry a couple of times - where that Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep number, sung to the words 'Woke up one morning and found the barracks had gone' was the closest anyone got to republican politics - and I've never seen the sort of religious bigotry I witnessed at the few Celtic matches I saw in the mid eighties. I think you've got a point noby.
This is the cooooooooooooolest footy forum I've ever seen!
