    Well Done to the MC

After another day of turmoil for the league I would like to say "As been one for been very critical of our MC over the last season or so that the decision that they took over the course of the summer has proved to be the right one and that they have Save the future of SLIGO ROVERS for this they should be congradulated"
    Till d End!

Agreed a very good season for the Rovers in a season which has seen the League damaged.

The property bubble is at the root cause of the League present troubles.

It is directly linked to a small number of clubs whose “success” was bought through attempted property deals or as a result of developer benefactors.

This allowed these clubs inflate players salaries to unrealistic levels and draw players from clubs trying to survive on gates and real support.

The reality is that support for domestic soccer in Dublin in particular relative to its population is very low. The sad fact is that the clubs in larger urban areas with low relative support through their dubious financing arrangements are undermining completely the prospects of success of clubs with greater relative support.

Success in Europe is simply not the solution and at this stage should not be the overriding objective. The objective should be to establish a competitive domestic league where players’ salaries are linked to gate receipts even if these means some or all part time. Summer soccer introduced in vain to aid success in Europe should be abandoned and get back to the old season where there is less local competition for support. Additional funding made available to clubs should be invested in improving facilities both for supporters and players. The FAI and others must focus on encouraging youngsters and the not so young away from the television to support their local team. The media must play their part and not continue with saturation coverage hyping the cross channel league

MNS showed the way in this regard and is to be complimented in what was an otherwise in many respects a depressing scene this
    year

I read that article above this morning and have to agree with it. The whole League needs to be revamped after this year. Pull it apart and start from scratch. eg: Winter soccer is a major priority. One thing that I think is the only way forward for the league. I could name hundreds people I know from working as a reporter and from going to Rovers games all my life and its the same old story I hear from them, they much prefered the league when it ran during the winter, matches on a hot summers day don't have the same attraction, why go to the showgrounds on a Saterday night in June when you could go to Bundoran with the family and have a night of fun for around the same price. All this has to be taken into consideration. I could go for hours.
And we are playing Summer soccer because: It suits the "Big Clubs", well look at them now i tell you.
For to long the FAI and people running the league have had their decisions influenced by the "Big Clubs" when the rest of the league is wavering on the brink. Now these clubs are gone, will the FAI listen to clubs like us? I hope so.

On yeah great article by the other young fella Daniel McDonnel on that page to. Worth a read for any interested League of Ireland fan.

    Smile eircom league

i agree with the above two posts completely. the boys running the show delaney etc need to listen to the people on the ground GET BACK TO WINTER FOOTBALL. i have spoken to so many people who would love to go to the showgrounds but the summertime does not suit them. i believe that the fai and league should concentrate on the clubs outside the capital at least the provincial clubs can generate some semblance of decent support. take for instance bohs when they won the league this year at dalymount there was only 2300 people at that game. if that was cork galway ,sligo harps etc there would be at least 5000 spectators. and any of these teams if they were at the top over the course of the season would generate much bigger crowds. htere needs to be major surgery carried out in the league as we are heading for bleak economic times and the league/fai should reward the clubs who have survived this season who have stood more or less aloof from the fantasy world created by these clubs who have being backed by property developers etc. c'mon the bit o red

We have returned to winter football - were you not at the Turners Cross game on Friday?

Or were you off sunning yourself in Bundoran?
