Will merge the two threads. In Paddyfield's defence somebody may have thrown it here from the general forum.

Henderson to resign as Cobh manager

Cobh Ramblers manager Stephen Henderson is to leave his position at the end of the current season.

Henderson, who took over at the club four years ago, will resign after the final league game against Derry City.

He said: 'I have had a fantastic time as manager and may I say I have treated it as a huge honour to manage this football club.

'I always said I will not walk away from this club a bitter man, but I have felt some resentment in recent times, so I feel it is best I go now before that resentment turns me into someone I do not want to be.'

Cobh, who came up from the First Division last season as champions, are currently second from bottom in the table with two games remaining. They are just two points from the safety of ninth spot, currently occupied by Finn Harps.

They're the only ones I have.

To go back on topic I think the timing is terrible for such an announcement but clearly he's been messed about at board level at times this season. He did an excellent job with Cobh though.

Thank you Hendo for 4 great years, here's a thought for the vancnt post what about martin cambridge? He has undoubted passion for the club, that was plain for all to see at the bray home match, why not give him a go? And maybe if possible give greg o'halloran a player/coachs role,i know hes only on loan but if it was possible wouldn't his experiance be handy?

He's not on loan. Colin O'Brien is.

    To Whom It Concerns,

This has to be the worst end to an awful off the pitch season. For all us Ramblers fans we have had to endure nothing but relentless bad press related to this wonderful club when we should be enjoying, what could be for this club, a once in a life time adventure. We have had to see this club been dragged through the mud time and time again with a civil war the likes not seen since 1920.
The people associated with this club have let themselves down and to think that Hendo has lasted this long is a testiment to the man.
I am not Hendos biggest fan- but what I do have for the man is the utmost respect. He has dealt with everything this season in a remarkable fashion while also keeping the team in with a chance of staying in this league.
For the last 4, but especially the last 2, we have been treated to some remarkable nights in St. Colmans park not seen for 10 years. Every penny I have given to (somebodies pocket) the club over the last 2 years I can honestly say was money well spent.( Well would be if it was well spent) It has always been enjoyable with good banter and some excellent football.
That- I can say my friends is down to one man and ONE man only- Hendo.
He has done what none of the previous 3/4 managers even attempted- promoted, encouraged and made Cobh players like Davin, John Meade stallworths of the present team. This in itself has made watching Ramblers enjoyable again.
The night in Athlone was one of the best in my football life and I nearly cried watching that utube clip. Ramblers in the Eircom Premier League.
    Let me finish by saying-
I for one will stand by the dressing room corner and give that man a fantastic ovation when he steps out on Saturday night and an even better ovation when he is walking off. He has given so much for this club and made us proud again.
For this I thank you Stephen. Best of Luck for your future. I hope you get the club you deserve

understatement of the year id say

I think hendo deserves credit for what he has done but he is not completely blameless in the mess rams find themselves in. He spent a fortune 2 years ago when the club backed him financially and threw away a lot of good money on bad judgement do you remeber David Breen, Packie Holden etc came ond took the money and ran!!

It is unfortunate that he has forgotten about that now and so has every one else.

Other Managers were not afforded near as much money or as much commitment as Hendo was from the board. 10k was found to buy Kevin Murray who was the last manager afforded money to buy a player at rams.He was well worth it by the way.

Things may have not gone well this season but over the 4 years Hendo has been well backed so now to go back and blame the board is just wrong!!

I wish other Managers had been afforded the same time and money over the 4 years as hendo was as we may not be in the situation we find ourselves in today.

I think the timing of the announcment stinks when we need everyone pulling together for the last 2 games hendo has clouded it by making this announcment its not all about hendo its about the team!

Think you are well out of line ramblers. what you are saying is similar to what some people said about dave o'leary at leeds. That o'leary should have been more sensible spending all the money Ridsdale told him was available. Stephen henderson is not a member of the cobh board. He was informed of the money that was available to him and initially assembled the squad below
    http://www.eufo.de/football/irl/2006/cobhlers.htm
He then went on to fine tune this squad and got promoted with the lowest budget in the division. His only significant signings were colin o brien and greg this year and he has brought some of the best moments im sure we will ever see.
To try and use the signing of kevin murray as an example of spending money is absolutely idiotic. He has been outstanding and i have no doubt we will find it very difficult to hold on to him. To even mention this in such a manour can only come from a person with a one track mind.
To mention dave breen and co is easy but surely all that can be cancelled out by one signing.Bringing dav up from wanderers.
The board at cobh ramblers have been living beyond there means for too long and to blame hendo is wrong. If stephen has not been allowed to renew any contracts for next year then what can we expect, his squad has no future and our good players are easy pickings for city and tothers around us.I just hope the next manager can have as "bad management" skills as stephen because if it brings back to St. Colmans what stephen has brought then i wont complain(Even if he does have some of rafa bentitez bad habits).

Thats board member talk if I ever heard it. He was afforded the backing that any manager hoping to turn an amaeture LOI club into a semi-pro team should be given so dont give me that S**te. And everyone makes bad decisions- the board have made plenty of em. It wasn't Hendos fault that does players wouldn't put in the effort.
And stop going on about the timing and making things worse yet again. What kind of FAN are you. The media have made enough of it.
What it allows us to do is give Hendo the send off he deserves for 4 years hard work- A send off that he could not have been afforded had he made this decision at the end of the season.
P.S. Using Kevin Murray as an argument is pretty poor imo. One of the best most committed players ever to put on the Claret & Blue.

I think you both missed the point of my post which is hendo was backed by the board more then any manager over the last 10 years. Money was found to back him and his players which without it some of the players would not be there.

I am not blaming him but he cannot walk away and say it has nothing to do with me!!

I have no problem people thinking I am out of line thats why this is a forum so people can debate there points this is my view of which I am entitled to as are you guys.

As for Kevin Murray read what I wrote!! Well worth the money this was an example of the board backing hendo not an arguement!!

if i wrote all the home truths i know about stephen henderson as a manager, it would blow ye away, the man has been a fool for cobh ramblers the best of times, any other manager would have walked many moons ago. Stephen, like Barry Walsh, have been hit in the pocket more than anybody associated with the club, if the likes of Demot Keely and Paul Doolin got word of some of the things he has done for this club they'd give him a smack.

I've been avoiding passing comment on Henderson all week, but not for the life of me would i have a bad comment passed about the man.

That is all, and Hendo had the choice keep Darren Murphy, or buy Kevin Murray, i think he made the right move, at the time Darren was always injured and if not injured he was suspended(hes now matured into a great player i must say) but id take 10 kevin murray ahead of 10 darren murphys any day of the week. And for the record id back up the two lads 100% that the use of Kevin Murray to use against hendo is pathetic as in my opinion he is in the top 3 or 4 of the best player the club has ever had, funnily enough if i had to make a top 4, 3 would be centre backs!!!

so which ex board meber are you, every single manager has bought bad players over there carrers,

i critcised hendo when things were bad and will admit it in front of him, he knows who i am here anyway, i will criticise him but at the same time i will praise him if he derserves it and he deserves all the praise he gets and more for what he has achieved with such limited resources,

the first 2 years were a bit of a dissapointment and 3 years ago (hes 2nd year) we just went for it, and spent money we didnt have to get promoted, and it failed in a massive way and we are still feeling the consequences of it to this day, but that mistake was the making of what we have now,

we had to tighten the belts slash the wages massively, the deadwood ran away and your left with a commited squad of players, players that had unquestioned loyalty to the club, and that heart and spirt with a good manager bought us to where we belong,

but sadly the people of cobh, from joe soap to the mayor refuse to back the club and help out even a little, just come to a game, one game, just 2 hours every 2 weeks, the people of cobh couldnt manage it and now we have lost a true servant to the club, i wouldnt blame him for leaving,

promises were made not by the board but by sponsors and politicians that they would help the club, ive done my part i bought the season ticket and still pay at the gate, i traveled all over the country as much as i could, bought the merchandise, what have these people done, i dont think ive even seem the mayor at a game this season, after all the promises to help get the club what they need,

and its not the first team, there not suffering much as the train and play in cobh, its the young people that are suffering, and the politicans cant even help out with getting a field, how do we develop a club when we cant get even the most basic of resources,

i wouldnt blame hendo for walking away
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

He's doing the right thing IMO. He's done very little wrong during his tenure. Sure he's made a few mistakes but we've bounced back as a club.
I'd agree with bella about Kevin Murray too. Darren Murphy was an immature excuse for a footballer when he was at this club. He had the talent but just didn't want to use it.

talking about trying to save there own skin, it wasnt my fault it was hendos. what aload of rubbish we all know who is to blame, lads the way to look at this is like if you were working for pfizers and you were told there was achance plant would close and you wouldnt be getting your wages this week and maybe not next week , you have kids and mortgages dependent on money received, no matter how much pride you had in company and how much effort you put in it has to effect you thinking and you confidence all the crap that went on in rams this year has been a huge factor in our relegation when players should have 100% concentration to try and win they were in stead having to meet about wages and job security, a disgrace lads thats what it is, as for blaming politicans and stuff you know they will never come through for you unless there is an election looming and you must be seriously deluded to think otherwise
