Saw the Stepfather at the weekend. 0/5. Avoid.
Saw Adam and Paul on TV the other day, great film if a little grim, but well worth a view.
Saw the Stepfather at the weekend. 0/5. Avoid.
Went to a preview of The Lovely Bones tonight and while it was decent, as with most of my fav books when turned into movies, I was a bit disappointed. Still it made me cry and laugh and was worth the 3 hours round trip to see it! 8/10
For some reason I found myself having breakfast watching "The loneliness of the long distance runner" this morning on tv, it's probably a tough watch, with lots of future stars in it, but the development of the character, with his inbuilt flaws playing a part in the end, is something that makes it very enjoyable. Tom Courtney was terrific in it.
Really, what High grant, j Parker and G Clooney were not as good as they usually are? Wow thats a shock
Eventually got to see SlumDog Millionaire - was very impressed, it was shocking and exciting, with great acting and a killer storyline
Also rewatched In Bruges - a bit overrated, and the dialogue is fairly childish, the acting just about saved the movie
Cabaret (1972) - Michael York plays an English student who moves to 1930's Germany to complete his German studies, and takes a room in the same house as Liza Minnelli's American cabaret signer, who is also an aspiring actress. Despite being billed as a musical, there's not a lot of singing, apart from the songs in the nightclub where Minnelli works, there's only one other song in the whole film, and it certainly doesn't feel like a musical. The power of the Nazi party casts an ever-growing shadow over the film's proceedings. The picnic scene expresses this growth excellently. A single boy sings a Nazi anthem, and gradually the rest of the attendees join in, until finally the first singer is revealed as a member of the Hitler Youth.
I'm no fan of musicals, but I certainly didn't dislike this. Put it in the "one to watch" files.
Just watched Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels last night and it still never gets old 8/10
Watched the Curious Case of Benjamin Button with the kids last night. I am not a fan of Mr Pitt but due to the fantastic make up for most of the movie I totally forgot it was him and was completely absorbed in the story. It was heartwrenching (yes I cried, as usual) and unrealistic but really worth the long haul. Maybe it was the drugs the doc had just given me but I found it an amusing and entertaining movie. 8/10.
Apocalypto - Great flick imo. 8.5/10
Cumann Peile Dún Dealgan - Champions 2015 (too many accolades to be typing)
Termonbarry Athletic TID!
watch Assassination of a High School President earlier.
When the SAT scripts are stolen from the principal's office, and discovered in the locker of the basketball team's star player, and the school's president, the journalist who discovered them becomes the school hero, and is recommended for a prestigious internship. While doing some fact checking on the story, the student discovers a greater conspiracy than he had suspected.
It's a film noir set in a high school, complete with femme fatale, and a gum chewing detective in a trenchcoat. If you liked Brick, you should check this out.
My other half, a devout Gibson worshipper, went to see it in the cinema, with her Granny! They hadn't heard much about it (except Mel made it) and thought he might be in it. She said that after the first few headchoppings and disembowellings? she couldn't handle her popcorn and gummi bears!
Watched District 9 last night. Very very good. Special effects were good, the story good and the chances of a sequel are good. Very happy. Also saw the original Taking of Pelham One Two Three, and was pleasantly surprised. Robert Shaw was very good, didn't know much about Walter Matheau either but he was credible too.
Would highly recommend both.
Also saw The Firm (2009) and Cass. Wouldn't recommend either.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
Just watched "Sin Nombre" very good film 8/10

Valentines Day... Hollywood's version of Love, Actually. The less said the better.
Good evening!
I went to see My Name is Khan last night. Gotta say it was pretty good. It's breaking bollywood box office records apparently.
