nice one, it's on the list of ones to see. i think it's in limited release over here - looks haunting and beautiful at the same time.

Saw it at The Lighthouse, they usually run 'em for a fair while.

Watched Ratatouille with my kids last night and have to say I really enjoyed it. Not as hilarious as Shrek or Nemo but a good flick for the family. Some bits made me laugh out loud!

Watched Sideways again. Great show & one of the few small films to live up the hype.

Do not drink too much. Do you hear me? I don't want you passing out or going to the dark side. No going to the dark side!

    "We're not drinking effing Merlot."

I heard that sales of the Merlot grape went down and sales of the grape the character recommends Pinot Noir(?) shot up for Californian and European wines after the release of the film.

Watched a few movies over the weekend. Took my 11yr old to see Four Christmases in the Cinema and boy do I regret it. Not only was it below average but they may have ruined christmas in our house. It was a 12A movie but didnt realise that til we were in there and I kinda thought it couldnt be too bad and he is fairly mature for his age so took him in. Big mistake. There is a scene where basically a young kid is told his father is Santa. My 11 yr old was a borderline believer and this was our last year with Santa visiting. Am so gutted.

Also saw Superbad and Lucky Number Slevin finally over the weekend. Superbad was disappointing but did enjoy Lucky Number Slevin except for the moronic "you dont know what you just watched so we will explain it all to you now" part at the end. Hate the way they think we cant "get" the plot.

The Lemon Tree - is an Israeli film made for Israelis and sympathisers. I read in an Irish review it was based on a true story. The book its based on is real, not too sure about any story. There is very little of the reality of the occupied territories and the innumerable check-points and controls the locals have to endure.
One plus is it includes the prolific Palestinian actress Hiam (Hyam) Abbass. She breezes through the role. But its not a very subtle film and honestly if it was based on a true story the Israeli Army would ensure there was no lemon grove for there to be an issue.

A Palestinian film I would recommend is the stylised 'Divine Intervention' by Elia Suileman. Its about a courting couple meeting beside a checkpoint on the Jerusalem -Ramalah road as I think she doesn't have the correct ID to travel to Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Two scenes below, highly stylised and choreographed. Independent of the plot but would be considered spoilers because of the site gags. (some scenes of gun-play and dance.)

NSFW? (Contains scenes of dance among other things.)

One new film that should be released soon is Pomegranates and Myrhh by Najwar Najjar.

She has done alot of documentaries and shorts before this.

Just saw They Live (1988) for the first time, John Carpenters weird sci fi political movie. It was good, and had a clear message - that we are all brain washed most of the times. I think David Icke must have had a look at this movie before he went off on one - it is virtually the same time too!!!!

Have downloaded a good few for X-mas..................

Requiem For a Dream (have seen it before but now have the directors cut)
Waking Ned Devine - want to show it to the wife - its fun
The Long Good Friday - havent seen it but it has good reviews

and if they ever get seeded .......United 93, How Harry Became A Tree, Brazil, This Is Spinal Tap and Hear My Song.

Requim is a great show i loved it 2 very strong stories about similar topics but viewed completly differently by the "public"

How harry became a tree is quite good too felt more liek a play than a movie.

And spinal tap ill be watching that again over the hols

One of my favourite books of all time so was scared of how it would work when transported to Chicago. John Cusack is my favourite actor though so knew it was in fairly safe hands. Was delighted that it didnt really lose any of the hip-nerdiness of the book.

    Enjoy!
