was at the premier of Couples Retreat earlier, the director, the producer and Vince Vaughn introduced the movie. Took a friend of mine and she shook hands with Vince when he passed.

Ok comedy, not great. Decent DVD rental alright.

Saw Couple's Retreat (3.5) last night, went in with low expectations as we just wanted a no-brainer film after work. Predictably, it was er...predictable, contrived and not very clever but it did have some laugh out loud moments, it was pleasantly easy to watch, and it was not quite as bad as I had anticipated. I may have laughed more during it than I did during the equally hyped Invention of Lying (3/5), which started well, before running out of steam mid-way through.

Can't wait to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Up over the next few days.

Saw District 9 today, really enjoyed it. The beginning of it was just brilliant the way it draws you into the story and the first half blew me away. I actually felt the last third or so was a little more boring (but then I never find explosions and clanking machines that interesting) but it was certainly an intriguing film that left you with plenty to think about. The door was also pretty obviously left open for a sequel.

Went to Up the 3D version tonight and it was an excellent film. Pixar seem to be making films that are animated which you just become part of while watching.

Watched That Damned United Friday night and thought it was excellent.

just saw Public Enemies, excellent show,

further enhances my opinion of depp as one of the best actors around, dillinger and jack sparrow caracters are literally worlds apart, yet he plays each so well,
bale was good also, hell the whole cast was excellent

Couples Retreat...Poor...Vaughn rants on and on for far too long...when he goes on about the shark attack..meant to be funny but just annoying. Some laughs but too much of a gap between them.... the women are all hot though.... 4/10

Drag me to Hell...rented it looking for a good horror for Halloween. One of the worst films I've seen in a long time. Not once was it scary. They try to make it funny too like Army of Darkness (same director), but it doesn't work.
Wasn't helped by some of the worst acting I've seen ..Alison Lohman and Justin Long being the main culprits.

Went to see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D last weekend and to be honest seeing it in 3D does nothing for the film.

    District 9

Very disappointing. After 15 minutes, I could have written the screenplay for the rest of it, because it was so obvious what was going to happen. And the ham-fisted South Africa-apartheid-prawns "can you see what we're doing here?" connection was pitiful.

seriously youd have to have phycic abilities to tell what happen in that film based on the first 15 mins

the first 15 minutes was news reports and CCTV footage, did you really predict what was going to happen to Wikus?

Okay, maybe 20 minutes. Whatever. Guy gets sprayed in the face by alien gunk...what could possibly happen?

He works for nasty multinational corporation. I wonder will they be interested in him, forcing him to go on the run?

Where can he possibly run to?

    and so on.....

i liked District 9 but i felt it lost its way a bit. Didnt know whether to be a moralistic tale or a half funny/half shoot-em-up style movie. Id still give it a healthy 7/10.

The Education of Charlie Banks - Fred Dursts directorial debut and its actually pretty enjoyable and well acted though it is a little aimless at times. 6.84/10

also rented the Girlfriend Experience at the weekend. It was a Steven Soderberg film about a high class escort starring filthy porn star (Sasha Grey of Cumfart Cocktails 5 fame). Watched it with a box of kleenex at the ready and a sly wink at herself. I dont think there was even a pair of tits on show. Waste of my time and money.

Decent film though if you like arty stuff that sounds like its going to be w@nk-worthy but isnt. 4.13/10
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Finally got to see The Damned United - have to say a little dissapointed, not even near the book, good acting but was very short.

Taken - wasnt as bad as expected, but the story was very silly - American girls kidnapped and set to be used as sex slaves in Europe, and pesky Albanian gangs running amok in Paris. Liam Neeson kicking ass!!

The Brave One - Jodie Foster does Death Wish. Not bad, but would much prefer Charles Bronsan

28 Weeks Later - sequal to one of my favs - 28 days later - rubbish effort, no new direction just rehashing the same plot/story - but looking forward to Boyle back on board for the new movie out next year

Joe Strummer - The Future is Unwritten - C4 movie doc on one of my music heros, was enjoying it but then Bono made an appearance on it and that kind of gave a sour taste. Also damien hirst and a few american actors.......I mean very little about punk in London at all.

Happened to watch this last week too and I thought it was a decent effort, I thought the plot/story was very different to the first, so much so that they were almost working to a different genre, the first a slower more traditional horror, the second an action horror thriller. Overall about a 6 out of 10.
