I think the birthday celebrations are a few weeks late
Sligo Rovers Football Club are celebrating the clubs 80th birthday with an extravaganza of fun and birthday celebrations at their next home game against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday November 1st, kick-off 8 o’clock.
In a novel way of giving back to the community the club are asking everyone attending to bring one of three items – an item of non-perishable goods, a soft toy or a food voucher as a birthday gift. These items will be collected and donated to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul for their annual Christmas appeal.
Gates will open at 6 o’clock for what we hope will be a carnival atmosphere. Come early and be there to wish a happy birthday to Sligo's greatest sporting institution.
To encourage more families to attend for what is hoped to be a great occasion for all Sligo Rovers will be issuing a special family ticket for the game. A ticket for two adults and two children for the game will cost €25. These special family tickets will be available on pre-sale from the office in the Showgrounds on the Wednesday and Thursday morning before the game.

Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

There'll be a bigger crowd at this game, that was the reasoning behind it.
