Took me 1 hour to get home last night leaving work at 7pm when normally would take 20 minutes. Lansdowne never disrupted traffic as much as Croke Park & numbers along does not explain. Only the GAA would be allow extend stadium to 70k+ without parking or public transport.

Tell that to the people who live on the southside when there was a match on. Yes, matches in landsdowne didn't effect traffic in Drumcondra but it had just as much an impact.
As someone who lives near enough Lansdowne, you're completely wrong. LR allowed traffic to filter out in all directions, and twenty minutes after a game the worst of the traffic was usually over. As Croker is smack in the middle of town, congestion from it is awful, clogging up the city for hours, and with no helpful traffic calming measures, or parking available. I despise Croker, can't wait to be out of the hole.
Well said. Even for the games with the terraces open Lansdowne did not reduce Ballsbridge to gridlock. Because of its location it encouraged people to use public transport.
The fact that it was only half the size of Croke Park probably helped a bit too.
yes it did. on match day trying to get through blackrock, booterstown and D4 before a match was a nightmare in bus or car while i was traveling through the south city.
croke pk is in city ctre dublin serviced by many buses, luas and dart... does that not encourage people to travel by public transport?
Cant wait to get out of the place. Horrible soulless bowl of a ground. Why dont we bring along all of flags and banners for the last game there and flood the place with them? I was looking back on some of our games in Lansdowne and it was great to see the front of the east stand covered in flags and banners.
It just complete anti-irish football. I havent heard of one away support flag being removed from the ground. Im sure the away stand will be full of polish flags next month.

I never noticed the traffic being too bad in Donnybrook on the way to games in Lansdowne, even with 50,000 there. Certainly nothing like Dorset Street is for games in Croke Park. Obviously there's more traffic on Dorset Street normally but it's still easier to get to Lansdowne in my experience.

its far from that in fairness, its a gaa stadium and works very well for both hurling and football. I havent been to a rugby game there but i understand it works reasonably well for rugby too. Unfortunately the same can not be said of football.
IMO the two main problems are 1: the pitch is too big for football and the crowd are too far from the action, in my opinion for football the upper tiers in the cusack and hogan give a better view than the lower tiers and 2: as a result of the increased capacity more people are going along who arent really that bothered if we win or not whereas in LR the hard core support was the vast majority.
LR was a hole but the best games I have attended from an atmopshere point of view were there. Hopefully the new LR will be the same.

Of course it's better, but they're hardly doing us any great favour. The way some GAA fans go on you'd swear they're putting themselves out in anyway instead of making millions of euro.
