Wouldn't have said they were too guilty of that at all. Usually if you don't like a particular thing or group of things they can be seen as 'all the same', you know, like the way Americans are all stupid and boring, all rap sounds the same, or blacks all look the same (according to my gran at least ).

Anyway I only mentioned them out of divilment rather than as a genuine expression of love. I've listened to the album a few times alright and didn't think it was too bad, obviously not an album of the year but probably better than you'd give them credit for.

i'd like to nominate Scouting For Girls as an outside contender. OK joking, they're a pox on the musical landscape.

im now of the opinion that Oasis' new one is a contender. Surprisingly decent effort. Keane's new one has surprised me too, it's nowhere near as bad as i was expecting.

    This year's been a bit sparse for truly quality releases. But the best for me so far;

The Stand In's - Okkervil River
You and Me - The Walkmen
    Carried To Dust - Calexico
The Devil, You and Me - The Notwist
At Mount Zoomer - Wolf Parade
Red, Yellow, Blue - Born Ruffians
Dear Science - TV On The Radio
For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver
    Ragged Wood - Fleet Foxes

Some high profile disappointments this year, including Sigur Ros and My Morning Jacket, IMO. It's been a strange year but some promising artists emerging.

I notice that since the third vote has been cast, there has not been a single mention of Neon Neon - disappointing people, how can everyone ignore the concept of the concept album so completely. Time to write a concept album, I think...
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Was Neon Neon not mentioned earlier in this thread? Great album though, but still hating that rap interlude 'Sweat Shop' though.

Sorry, I meant it in the sense that there has not a single vote for them since the third vote was cast.

Sigur Ros and Neon Neon have very good albums but the rest on that list are very very average i reckon since "others" won it backs up my opinion.

And No conor Orburst ?? No MGMT ? No Vampire Weekend ??

I wouldn't say that, the Nick Cave, Elbow and Cut Copy albums are far from average. Maybe if it was one or two albums in 'Others', but if you look back they're all different. There's 15 votes for others, and I can see 12 albums specified (there's always 3! ), every one of them different. Just means there was rather a good selection of top cuts this year.

Neon Neon for me just edging out Kings of Leon.
'Fight like Apes', 'Vampire weekend' and 'Noah and the Whale' get an honourable mention from me.

Isn't it funny that no-one has nominated a pop or RnB album. Do you think that's because no one likes pop or RnB music or because no one wants to be ridiculed for liking pop or RnB?

Are you suggesting pop should become known as 'unpop'?

Chinese Democracy by GnR if the offical album release is anything like the unoffical one.

And now I know you said your memory is fuzzy but how did you leave Hoop Hoop Hurray out of the top 6? And don't give me the "no compilations" excuse!
Sorry, forgot I hadn't replied to this.
No great surprise on the Midfield General album, it was on your recommendation that I got it!
Bass Mechanic is a top tune alright, and I also am a bit partial to Error and Loving Laughter, and indeed the single Disco Sirens. Good stuff indeed.
Emmmm, I was saving Hoop Hoop Hurray for the Album of the Millennium poll. Obviously!

Bloc Party's new one is a return to form.... although Mercury divided everyone. I liked it myself...

Haven't bought many 08 albums but must say that the Oasis one is absolute muck...sounds very much like a band going through the motions (which, of course, they are...)

Stand Ins by Okkervil River gets my vote. Not their best but still some brilliant moments from it...Lost Coastlines would get my vote for single of the year...
