That fluttering sound you hear is.....

....the sound of chickens coming home to roost

    Thursday October 09 2008

Players at Drogheda United have been told the club cannot guarantee their wages this week.

The news was given by club chairman Vincent Hoey, who met the squad this evening.

The side had hoped to secure a new ground near City North hotel between Drogheda and Balbriggan, but this deal has now fallen through.

The club had previously thought it would secure its future with a new stadium at Bryanstown, south of the town.

Drogheda have two home games scheduled over the next five days, against Bohemians in the league tomorrow night, and against Irish League side Glentoran on Monday in the Setanta Cup.

Jesus we have a serious chance of making the UEFA Cup as Drogs look like they are about to fall apart. I think we have to close the gap on Drogs and over take Cork and also hope Derry reach the cup final.

That's what I'm thinking too but don't want to get the hopes up yet. I'd love a European trip

From reading the ccfc forum it seems as though cork city will struggle to get a uefa license as well.

Ouch.....I believe this truly is a case of "houses built on poor foundations" - everyone in the league knows that the likes of Drogs, cork, Bohs and pats wage bills are totally unsustainable and has been discussed by the financial geniuses on this forum and now it is all unfolding and people are surprised?????

The FAI have totally mismanaged this situation - the financial health of the leagues clubs were held in check by the monthly accounting practices and wage cap?????

My 4r5e!!!! Every one knew it was a mess and this will badly affect the league for some time to come!

Well Adam Hughes self-harmed so he could play for Drogheda so it depends on the player really

In all seriousness, although we could all see the Drogheda situation coming, it's not right to laugh at another club's misfortunes. It's like a blind man laughing at one who's deaf.

Drogheda, at least, had a plan that they gambled their future on. We gambled ours on......... what exactly?

Never seen the previous Bishop there, if he had his way the inner relief road would be running through the Showgrounds. Actually I think he was club patron or some such title at the time.

    ,

I think it's great to be laughing at them, I wasn't laughing last year when they tapped up three of our players and unsettled our team, its bad for the genuine Drogs fans and for the league but that muppet Doolin and his backers deserve all they get
