He's got Jamacian roots and was a great player in his time....but he tried to be too clever at Celtic with his 4-2-2-2 formations....
I dare say they're probably thinking that he could be the one to get a few decent English born players into the squad for the WC Qualifiers which could be a big deal for them, it's how they qualified before, they got Deon Burton and similar players to declare for the campagin and it was enough to get through in a weak confederation. their problem is that they'll all retire from international duty either after the World Cup or if they don't make it, I hear the JFA is similar to the FAI for being tight and disorganised when it comes to facilities, travel, hotels etc.
    innit though??

He is not English born. He was born in Kingston Jamaica afaik.I remember when they were slagging us off a few years back for implementing the Granny rule they had both him and Terry Butcher in their squad.

And their cricket team since the 60's has been South Africa B! Jamaica have a really poor team at the moment so maybe Barnes can unearth a few players under the granny rule.

I decided to have a look at Jamaica 1 v Mexico 0. I was impressed by the way the Reggae boys were set up, they almost totally dominated the game. Sven is the Mexican coach.
Then I found out that Barnes hasn't taken over yet, it's an interim coach who is running things.
The Reggae boys could also hack it at the Mexican level, matching elbow for elbow, stud for stud.
