OK, the FAI has not fulfilled its obligations so the contract is voided surely on those reasons.

well not really because TV3 have still received some highlight footage. Anyway my point was that TV3 basically have a lot of ground not to be forced to show anymore live matches and RTE aren't exactly lined up to compete for them either.

I see your point but given the poor job that TV3 do, it might be better not to have them continue doing such a shoddy job.
It must also be ackowledged that so far this season, RTE have shown (incl tonight) 5 live games involving eL teams so far and will show the Cup final too. Thats a much bigger and better commitment than the TV3, who actually contracted to show live games.
No matter what way you look at it, the weekly show plus ONE live game back last April is a poor effort and shows no commitment whatsoever to the eL.

I'm not defending the Tv3 coverage in any sense, I am just saying that the contract that is in place doesn't strictly speaking have to be filled. Someone who worked for Tv3 told me that very very few of the sports department actually liked the league and most saw it as a way to get involved in the Champions League coverage. With that sort of attitute among the reporters, the coverage is not going to be very good.

Must compliment RTE on their coverage of the Cup Semi Final Replay last night, Interview area after the match and a studio with guests and everything.
Dolan was co commentating with George, he was hilarious, corny jokes to beat the band.
    He even made George laugh.

I didn't really enjoy Dolan's commentary. Seemed more interested in being funny than talking about the game.
Some of the stuff he came out with was just daft.

But overall, I thought RTE did a reasonable job covering the game.

I know it's not a great show but I suppose it's better than nothing. I still watch it most weeks as it is the only chance you really get to see the goals and highlights. Until something else comes along it will have to do I'm afraid.

Thers a report on Citynet saying that RTE are showing a league game live next week, the 17th. (Bohs v SPA)
How can they show a league game?
Is this a sign that RTE are trying to get eL back?
I hope so, it might buck up TV3 (or maybe they would be happy to be rid of it?)

TV3 have a non-exclusive contract... RTE could've shown games and highlights all along....
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

Be great if RTE showed a live game, especially as they don't seem to have been forced into it. Their coverage of the semi replay was good.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

RTE should be showing the games as our national broadcaster before they show other the league of another country live.

I don't think theres any need for exclusive eL rights. Best option would be for RTE & TV3 to show highlights or live games.
