    Fenlon names u-23 squad

Republic of Ireland Under-23 squad v Belgium:
    Darren Quigley - Derry City
    Barry Murphy - Shamrock Rovers
    Seamus Coleman - Sligo Rovers
    Gavin Peers - Sligo Rovers
    Ger O’Brien - Shamrock Rovers
    Conor Kenna - UCD
    Shane Guthrie - Cobh Ramblers
    Conor Powell - Bohemians
    Darren Murphy - Cork City
    Paul Keegan - Drogheda United
    Killian Brennan - Bohemians
    Stephen Rice - Shamrock Rovers
    Stephen O’Donnell - Bohemians
    John Paul Kelly - Bohemians
    Ruaidhri Higgins - Derry City
    Gary Deegan - Bohemians
Mark Quigley - St. Patrick’s Athletic
    Denis Behan - Cork City
    Ger Rowe - Bray Wanderers
    Jay O’Shea - Galway United.

I thought he joined Sporting Franchise?

Realistically Jay O'Shea, Quigley and Coleman in my mind are the only ones who could be in the National team.

Why a complete team of League of Ireland players?

Because thats the way its been. None of them are near good enough for the national team.

    Rice remained with Rovers.

I remember there being an announcement after Trap took office that it would be home based talent in the U23s. Maybe as a shop window for some of the later-blooming talent?

Rice still with Rovers (it'll be him or Scully out the door at the end of the season).

It was decided that this would be for League of Ireland only when the tournament was launched. The other countries have similar policies.

I'd imagine you're not too far wrong with the players who might one day make a full squad. Coleman is possibly the most likely.
