I'm shocked - Tony was a legend. Part of the league winning team in 1980. Best man I ever saw to take a penalty. Original midfield hatchetman.
Tony Meaney, Limerick midfielder of the successful sides in the early eighties passed away suddenly in the early hours of this morning at the age of 52. Personally speaking, I remember being brought to the Makets Field when I was 13 or 14, and he was one of my idols. A total pro, both on and off the pitch, he was a credit to Limerick football, and will be sadly remembered and missed.

Deeply saddened by this very sad news. A neighbours child as the saying goes.
I recall as a child him showing me the representative shirts he had earned for Ireland.
It was a great era for Limerick football and Tony was a great part of it I doubt we will ever see the likes of it again.
The only fitting tribute would be to return to the markets field.
Feel really sad
You're ruining a grand game
