Yes Stan, but most people have some sort of driving licence BEFORE they are allowed to get behind the wheel and cause a massive crash!

You always needed at least a provisional licence, which is about where Stan is now!

You know what? Fair play to him. What's done is done and he'd probably be the first person to wish his tenure at Ireland could be wiped away (even if we shouldn't forget it). I hope he does well.

No law down South regarding licences, they still do not enforce the law regarding provos! Still loads driving around with their L plates hidden in the glove compartment!
The law are turning a blind eye to it.

whats done is done - its in the past and we must look to the future as must stan - after the irish job debacle , he could have hid away but he hasnt - fair play to him

despite the disaster his reign as ireland manager turned out to be , he still was a great servant for our team and we should all give him our support and wish the man well for the future.

Yeah, fair play. It was Delaney who was the Muppet in this case. But you have to appreciate the irony....or should I say Irishony ?!

Still can't understand the goodwill towards Stan, a decent player, but a disgrace as manager who's attitude stank throughout his tenure which exacerbated the problems created by Delaney/him.

Because to harbour grudges would be bitter and pointless? Stan's reign was an embarrassment to himself and the team, a disaster for the association & a total write off in general, but that doesn't mean we can't wish him well as he goes about moulding his managerial career the right way. The reset button has been pressed so good luck to him.

I blame the FAI. They should have imposed another 'mentor' on Stan once it became clear that Bobby Robson could not fulfill his role. Stan could not deal with the media and he clearly lost the respect of his players as he couldn't organize or prepare a pub team FFS.

And he was paid more than Kerr & McCarthy which is a another example of the insanity of Celtic Ireland, where logic is constantly inverted and everyone lives in a fantasy world.

I don't harbour a grudge, and I do wish Stan well, but the damage to his reputation is done and will probably never recover. Yes, he was a great player for us, but think of Bryan Robson or Graeme Souness. What immediately comes to mind? The great player or the crap manager? Exactly.

A bit harsh - Stan had started his coaching badges before he was HANDED the Irish job. He has had the time in the last year to finish off that course so hopefully he can make some sort of career for himself. He wasn't qualified for the Irish job but that reflects more on Delaney than on Staunton himself - why the hell was he offered the job?

I know it was incompetent and embarrassing but I have no doubt Stan was doing what he thought was right - he just wasn't up to it. It would be better for all of us if we forgot about the last campaign and got behind the team we have now.

Well done Stan... Doing Dundalk proud.

I agree. And to rub salt into the wounds he held out for his multi million euro payout even though it must have been clearly evident even to himself that he wasn't up to the job long before the FAI had to sack him. Money that could have been used far better elsewhere.

I lost all respect for him at that stage.

totally agree, although i might be bias given my life long hatred of the guy

I think everyone is getting confused here........he's just qualified to drive a 54 seater Bus....it's no big deal really!
