    Joey O'Brien - Bolton v. Arsenal

At home for a few days. Watching Bolton v. Arsenal and it looks like Joey O'Brien will be playing right in front of ther back four. Any thoughts on this? Is this a first for him as I know he's been playing as a full back for a while now.

Didn't look too happy to be subbed off.

Surely he would be a better option than Whelan?

Just managed to get a stream working only to find he was about to be subbed so I didn't see any of him. Subbed on about 61 mins with Bolton 2:1 down. I didn't think he looked too happy to be taken off either.

Based on what exactly? Whelan has done very well for Ireland. It's good to see O'Brien get his game but he is well off the pace toniight.

On the basis of what, a hunch. The facts are at the moment is that Whelan has played 2 competitive games for Ireland and he got man of the match awards for both of them. O Brien played a game at centre back and was excellent and then played centre midfield against Cyprus and was crap.

Now that is not to say in the future that O Brien may turn out to be a better player but at the moment it would be foolish of Trap to drop Whelan in favour of O Brien.

Perhaps this could be merged with the Joey O'Brien thread:

    http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=8395...Joey+O%27Brien

I have always liked O'Brien since I saw him play on loan at Wednesday. Very talented footballer but no one (injuries aside) is going to break in to Trapps XI (except possibly Duff for Hunt) while the results continue to go well.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
