Football Suppoerters vs The Plastics - A Celtic Thread

Limerick Chronicle today reports that our Jack is over in Glasgow negotiating a deal to have the ever so Irish club from Glasgow over in July to play a friendly in Thomand Park. Considering Thomond holds 26k how rubbish will it be when the 500-700 of us turn out to watch 25k Limerick born people support 'their' club?

Great money spinner for the club though and let's hope that any Celtic fans that want preference on the ticket list politely asked to buy a Supporter's Club membership to get this treatment

A good way to do it, and it's one I want us to do if we ever get a big name team to come to town, is to subsidise the ticket price with league ticket stubs.
With the renewal of the "credit crunch" I don't know what "synergies" will obtain "going forward", but say it was going to be something like €50 flat for a ticket, then maybe €35 plus first option with two or three eL match ticket stubs from whatever home games are in the run up to the friendly would be fair enough. Event junkies will put up with anything to get a glimpse of their heroes sure, so a nice way to maximise the revenue.

Great if it happens, looking at E20/E30 a ticket but even at that do you reckon you would fill Thomond Park? even IF (and thats a big IF) they bring a full squad and not just a Celtic XI/selection?

The full squad will cost quite a bit in match guarantees.

Hopefully tickets will be sold at one of our home games a few weeks in advance. Also include in the price of a ticket entry into our closest home league game.

Can't see it being a sell out.

I see they are also hoping to set up 2 other friendlies against English teams (sunderland on the shortlist), maybe they could sell the Celtic match and the other two friendlies if they go ahead as a package of three tickets aswell as selling them individually.

And they also probably would have to pay Munster a percentage of the gates?. It would be fantastic promotion for the club though even if half of Limerick turned out wearing Celtic jerseys.

    Roughly Estimating

Pure pies in the sky speculative figures, but lets just say:

The club sells 24,000 tickets @€30 a head. This allows for freebies, schoolboy discounts etc. That gives you a total of €720,000 in gate receipts. Of that €720K, lets say:

    Celtic charge €125,000 , plus
20% of the gate €119,000, plus
Munster take 20% of the gate €119,000 plus
Policing and insurance of €200,000 plus
    Sundry costs €50,000.

That would come to €613,000. This could see the club clear €100K, PLUS whatever it brings in in programme sales, merchandise, and a celebratory dinner afterwards.

I know it would take a huge concerted effort to market it so you fill Thomond Park, but I reckon the novelty factor, plus the crowds that would travel from Clare, Kerry, Cork, Tipp and Offaly etc to see it, could easily make it a very feasible project.

great idea but i couldnt see that many tickets go at 30e a go.. Maybe 10-15euro would attract a larger crowd..

I reckon you'd get away with €30 for the Celtic first team. If it's going to be the usual representative side €15-20 would make more sense alright. Still speculation at the moment anyway.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

From what ive heard it is the celtic first team (two other celtic sides will be in ireland the same time) I think the package idea is good with one ticket for Celtic/Sunderland/whoever. One thing munster would not get a cut as the ground is now strictly commercial. You can rent the stadium for a 16th birthday if you wanted. Munster rugby dont even have their offices in Thomond anymore. There would be a fee naturally but not the figures mentioned above

Correct but the Thomond Park Stadium Company is owned by Munster Rugby.

Always rumours of Celtic playing a match over here, never happens though, apart from their underage teams. Although they will be playing Derry(end of this season and again next summer afaik) as part of the McCourt deal.
