    Elbow win Mercury prize

The Seldom Seen Kid takes the gong.
In fairness, looking at the list of nominees, with no Hot Chip in there, it's the right result.
Neon Neon maybe the only challenger in my view, but Elbow's is an album that has really grown on me.

Nick Cave's Aussie isnt he? Surprised Hot Chip weren't in there as well, or even Portishead. Haven't heard the album but like what I've heard of it... Why nominations for Estelle and Adele though?

    Oops, he is of course.
Got carried away there thinking of album of the year instead!
One more reason why it was the right result so.
They often go in for surprising inclusions in the shortlist, surprisingly commercial / charty sometimes. It's a good competition I think, as far as these things go.

They try to pick a mix of genre's to attempt to reflect what is happening in the broader music world and not just spotty inide kids.
I think Elbow were worthy winners, it's an excellent record and they were mind bogglingly good at EP

Estelle the token "R'n'B"/hip hop nominee. I don't know who Adele is.
