You've probably poxed yourself holidaysong, your future wife will have all girls and they won't give a sh*t about football let alone who they're supposed to support.![]()
As you'll be bringing them up in Dublin, you should like a few guys I know from Dublin support Derry city as we play in Dublin almost every 2nd week.
They will get to stand and sing and bang drums along with the famous red n' white army and also get the chance to see most of the Dublin premier clubs. They may also get the chance to travel to places like the Parc de Prince etc' and watch Derry win at least two trophies every 3 years (thats our ratio since 85').
If they're good they get to come along to the Brandywell and stand in section J.
You know it makes sense.
So if you think Bohs are big read this. http://www.astronomy.ie/perpespective.html
I can imagine a "Billy Elliott" situation. Holidaysong gives his kid some money to see a LOI match and he goes to see a GAA game instead.![]()
from reading thru this thread there seems to be a lot of people who have moved away from dundalk for some reasonim due my first in a couple of weeks and im being told they will support dublin,i know its a different sport but im meath and will be bringing them(yes them its twins)only to meath games when it comes to gaelic so they should develop that sense of belonging mentioned before its that simple really.
Brainwashing clearly works. Never identified with Dublin GAA in my life, as my da had me reciting the squad line-ups of both Cork hurling and football teams when I was 4. Thankfully he was never a Cork City fan as he supported Hibs and then moved to Dublin - after Hibs went bust, he started going to Pats, and I escaped an imperfect fate
I feel I should offer a friendly warning though - seeing as you're clearly ahead of me on the baby planning, I might visit the kids every now then with a "bribe" or two of taking them to Richmond, just to bring them into the light, you understand... It might work. A lot of culchies rent in Inchicore these days, or so I'm told![]()
I read the title "Should my future kids support Dundalk even though they won't live there..?" and thought what the f**K has geography got to do with it?
They shouldn't support Dundalk regardless of where they live.
Brilliant thread -
Like oriel 've been a fan for over 30 years and living away from the town for over 20, but I still tell anyone who care to ask me where I'm from, that it's Dundalk.
My 3 year old girl can sing some of the old 70's/80s shed songs - '**** b*****ds' being replaced with '**** passers' but the wee man's vocabulary only extends to d'dalk, which is a good start I suppose, especially for my Dad who still goes to matches.
I hope they'll become Sligo Rovers fans - could be difficult if there's an FAI cup at stake though.
when I was in dublin, I went to a couple of games every week and probably enjoyed Shels games most (early 90s) cos I went with a mate of mine who was a shels fans. Didn't like the atmosphere at Bohs, Pats were a bit stuffy and UCD was friendly but lacked the Oriel madness. Rovers? No chance. living in D2, Pat's might be the best option as they seem to be fairly family friendly but try to get home for a few of the games, and let them decide !

If it's in the blood, bring them up as Dundalk fans I say.

With their sudden transition to being one of the richest clubs in the world I think it's obvious they should be Man City fans. Obviously this should be subject to change according to who's looking like dominating the premiership at the time.
