Haven't seen much of Foley, but when I have seen him I haven't been impressed.

That said, I trust MIW's opinion and hope Foley is as good as is being described.

While I am a fan of McShane, and want him to do well, I don't really see him as a fullback. For me he should be on the bench as centre-half cover at this stage.

With the current injury situation, I'd be prepared to give Foley his chance over McShane, but I believe that Trap will go with the latter.

All that said, I've been wrong before (Whelan), and hope that whatever decision Trap makes will be the right one.

Injured isn't he? He's going to miss the Real game as well .

nobody wants to go back to the days of kerr and staunton where players are playing out of position, so i think that foley is the only real option at right back. also, is stephen reid going to be fit for the cyprus game?

Steven Reid will be touch and go for the Cyprus match.

While I don't see McShane as a fullback, it's hard to say that he'd be played out of position at right-back considering he's played most of his club football there over the past few seasons.

Put Steven Reid in as a right-back, and Andy Reid in cental midfield with Carsley instead of Whelan.

No please do not play Stephen Reid as right back. Just as we get a settled midfield that for the first time in ages showed itself to be a decent unit, you want to break up the strongest part of it.

    Fortunately Trap is in charge.
    In Trap we trust

Steven Reid hasn't played right full in nearly two seasons. There's no way Trapattoni is going to break up his midfield partnership unless there's an injury to Reid or Whelan.

not true, he played centre back for sunderland, west brom and brighton. hes only played right back for hull because of the good form of their centre backs. he can be solid in that position (its about 50/50) but its a home game, and the italian way of playing at home includes the full backs pushing forward, something i dont think mcshane would be very good at. he also has no pace for going forward

McShane played centre back at Man Utd, then Brighton. He was played at right back for West Brom. About a quarter of his games for Sunderland were at right back.

I don’t know how many games he played in the centre for Brighton but he played the majority at right full at West Brom and quite a few in this position at Sunderland before he was shipped out for being rubbish in both.
