It's going to be great for the County. We actually made the back page of the local rag this week, which shows you what we have to do to get any recognition.

A quick point about the League Cup draw. I attended one in Merrion Square once. Each club is invited to send a representative to the draw (not all do) which is also open to members of the press (none attended the one I was at). They use the same draw bowl that's used for the FAI Cup draw. The first team out is at home.

The Setanta has rules of its own regarding the venue of the final. If it involves two northern teams it takes place in the north, if it involves two teams from the south it takes place in the south, if there's one team from each it alternates between north and south. Last season the final would've been in Tolka if Cork had beaten Linfield, there was no plan to have it in Cork.

That was the rule until the semi final pairing, then it was changed. Had Cork won we would have had to go to Turners Cross.

The decision to have the LC final in Wexford is fair.

Hunky Dorys Park - could be worse, we could be going to Old Trafford every other week

I have always had a soft spot for Derry, probably from their numerous trips to Oriel in huge numbers back in the late eighties, indeed they won a LC in Oriel by 4 goals I think back then. I would probably be getting behind them for this had we been in the same division at any stage recently but its WYFC for me this time. Mick Wallace didn't come up for the last game but time before that he came into the Oriel bar after the game and just chatted with the home fans, sipping his 7up. Very approachable and genuine guy. Its hard not to love his motivation and methods, as several others have said their model is the way forward for the league. I hope they have to play their game in pink however :-)

True. One of our officials at the time of one of our League Cup finals, 2003 I think, made them open up both balls to be sure there was nothing dodgy going on!.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Derry had a represenative at the draw and all was above board.

Congratulations to Wexford for getting there and I'n sure you's will pull out all the stops to make it a great day.

Both clubs will be entitled to the same number of tickets and as it's on a saturday I believe we will sell all ours.

Looking forward to 4 in a row.
So if you think Bohs are big read this. http://www.astronomy.ie/perpespective.html

Seems to reinforce the posts earlier in the week from Wexford fans who were "promised" the final if they got through....

Saturday game should bring 500+ City fans down. Interested to see how they cope.
Why, do Derry folk find it difficult to cope in the South East?
    I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?

The 6 hour Journey i suppose.

Great to see Wexford fans etc appreciate the League Cup final, if it was Bohs fans etc there would be nobody at it, after all its only a 'Mickey mouse' trophy that Derry City only seem to want to win....

Exactly, a great competition for first division sides and Derry.

Can't believe people would begrudge this final to Wexford. Unlike kdjac I don't think is the perfect footballing set up, however it is the perfect junior club set up. Having events like this will hopefully convince Wallace that he's made the right move and Wexford will continue to develop.

The Good,The Bad and the Ugly

If Wallace had his way,we would a have a top notch stadium to host the final and to compliment our training facilities and complex. However only those living in Wexford would realise the hassle we've had just get planning permission for floodlights!
If we were a G.A.A. club one has to wonder would this have happened?
To call our set-up,junior club standard is slightly berating. If we had a stand in place,of which should have been[2000 seater] at this stage, would we be up to mark?
We are in existance 2 seasons and are making steady progress,we're not going to light up the world, but nor are we going to be looking for handouts from the F.A.I.
We are and always will be totally amateur in our playing status, but very professional everywhere else. How many clubs provide meals for the away team after the game, thats just something small, but means alot. How many clubs own their own training facilities and although not completed yet will have a top of the range gym?
Rome wasn't built in a day,BUT some of it was.....

It was, and I apologise. I didn't mean to come across that way. I've a lot of time for Wexford and wish you nothing but success.

I was just pointing out that, as of now, the stand in place isn't great. iIs absolutely fine for what you need though. As I said above, I hope nights like the upcoming final give the support and encouragement Wallace needs to keep going and keep Wexford growing

The mighty Pats.... your boardroom isnt exactly busting out of the trophy cabinet with cups....!!

Even that FAI replica cup must be well rusted at this stage.

    You have to laugh !!

Thats right...Europe, the journey begins, thats all that matters.
