And of course as of this time no player has been or should be named. Until the internal and FAI investigation has been completed.

We'll have to wait and see exactly what happened and what the player has or hasn't done but at least the club have acted swiftly.

Was it on tonight's game or another game they're investigating?

Who is involved though? Is it just the player and bets being placed? Of is there a syndicate behind it? Or a newspaper? Whatever .... either way, the player should never be allowed play for an FIFA Affiliated Competition again. Throw the book and make an example.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Wow hold on there fella. Let's see if the player in question is actually guilty first before we go and make an example of him.

It is possible the player involved has merely reported someone approaching him (as happened with Liverpool and that Romanian (I think they were anyway) crowd earlier this season) and has been suspended just to ensure a complete absence of shenanigans and disrepute while the investigation is carried out.

From what I've read on extratime it's an 'investigation into possible attempts to involve a Longford Town player in match-fixing.' So from that I take it that someone tried to get a Town player to throw a game or whatever and he came forward to let the authorities know about what was attempted. But we'll have to wait and see what happens in the next few days.

There's me thinking that's what players were supposed to do.....influence the results of their matches.

I presume this investigation into the First Division came about when someone looked at the league table and saw Mervue in second

Even if it was him that reported the approach? Just jump in two feet first there A face, rather than wait for the facts. I've no idea of the circumstances, but to jump to conclusions before the investigation is complete is ridiculous.

Nope. I wouldn't be throwing any names around personally. Dangerous territory legally.

I shouldn't have to warn people, but any names, or even strong hints at names, will result in bans

Not at all .... if the player was approached and he reported this then thats fine. I would throw the book if he is found to be participating in any way with this. Obviously you cant and shouldn't do anything until there is an outcome (if theres a precaution to suspend while its ongoing then fair enough) but if he is any way guilty then yes, definitely, throw the book as hard as you can.
