O'Neill and keane
An aging Italian would make more sense.

Or even Pat Fenlon. Actually that bit was a lie. Hibs fans tell me he's 'pish'.
Let's start with his European record...despite one good run, it is extremely underwhelming. Probably the best yardstick by which to judge his suitability for international management.
Also, he'd be devoured by RTE and the general meeja. It would be ugly. Somewhere closer to King than Kerr.
I'd be interested in hearing the case for Fenlon.

O'Neill and Keane wont please everyone but I am buzzing at even the prospect of it
Its really not that complicated!!!
This for real?? I can't see it working... One of them is bound to feel undermined by the other.
There will only be one person doing the undermining. And won't be a man from Doire.
Alan Partridge and David Brent in the same role.
Id rather try something like this than go for a journeyman European coach who will spend the first 2 years getting to know the players, or going back to an ex Manager who was a limited success.
Its a ballsy appointment if it happens and it might not work, but O'Neill is a proud Irishman and a fantastic manager in my opinion and if he wants the job I dont see any other better candidates queuing up for it. Keano could go both ways, if he is as good as he was a captain then it will be brilliant.
One things for certain, the players will at least get it out of their friggin heads that they arent good enough to compete against who ever they are playing

Roy Keane anywhere near Irish management is an absolute timebomb.
Author of Never Felt Better (History, Film Reviews).
He walked out of the team when he was captain....
Keane walked out on his country then club if he was in the army he would have been shot as a deserter and rightly so imo, never liked what I saw of him myself but don't know him, thought he was a good player and a brilliant captain, I would never let him manage any team why would you listen to him spouting on about us against them we're all in this together etc etc
This seems a bizarre appointment if true; hard to immediately grasp what the thinking might be behind it. We can speculate about the psychology of the dressing room for sure, but it's all conjecture and just from a purely technical point of view about what the two men might bring to the set-up, I don't see the logic. Very strange stuff altogether - it feels like it would either be a fantastic success or spectacular failure.
Everyone has their opinion on that and its pointless arguing, no one will change their mind at this stage. He came back as a player after that and as far as Im concerned its ancient history.
The man was one of the greatest players we ever had, he was a leader and brilliant motivator and I cant think of anyone better to try get the best out of the likes of McCarthy and Gibson...... But yeah it could go pearshaped
Its really not that complicated!!!
