He's been our best U21 player for quite some time. He's got an eye for a pass, good technique. There's definitely a bit of a player there - just needs the encouragement. Yes Palace are struggling but so are Derby and that hasn't working against Paul Green. But anyways I wouldn't necessarily see him in starting for us at present but the point I'm making is that we do have a decent group of young players coming through that aren't been given the opportunity.

Maybe international football is the next stage of that trend. I say that without knowing what he has to offer but I wouldn't write him off as an asset based on an assumption. I'd be the first to stick the boot into Trapp if he didn't have a look at him..
Where's the assumption? Walters is a donkey journeyman. That's a fact.

But all the same, I'm sure you wrote in to the FAI urging them to provides funds for a helicopter on hire, to cart Tardelli around the various Saturday venues

No its an opinion, and one that is based on pretty flimsy evidence. Incidently when Walters was in his early 20's he was in contention for a first team place at Bolton and was highly rated by Big Sam. His descent to Chester (via Hull) was disappointing, but his subsequent ascent back to the premiership via Ipswich (where he was player of the season on at least one occasion, and top scorer for two seasons - I think) suggests that he has some quality. He is currently being selected by Stoke ahead of Fuller and is getting more game time than Whelan, Wilson or the recently departed Lawrence.

Seen this guy playing with Ipswich in the Championship a few times and he certainly impressed me. However, I was always skeptical whether he was good enough to make the step up to the premiership. His first couple games apart, he has been awful. He looks well out of his depth in the premiership never mind international level. Absolute disgrace Stokes is not in the squad and Walters is. Here is a link to a thread on Stoke City's fans forum discussing the topic "Can Walters still come good?"

"I'd prefer Julie Walters. She could run around like a clueless t** too, and have no bearing on a game," is one of the kinder comments

He has a portly look about him. I thought the goalie was very suspect for the second.

I saw Andy Keogh in there, how did he play?

    Anyone find this somewhat unprofessional?

I understand this is a moment he'd like to be there for but this is his country and a competitive game. I've seen players play in the same week of deaths of family members, why? This is their job and a single game going badly can undo 2 years worth of work. There are exceptional circumstances that exempt players but I don't think a child birth is one of them.

Even if he did turn up his head probably wouldn't be in the game. And if anything went wrong with the birth he'd never forgive himself. I think it's perfectly acceptable for someone to withdraw due to an impending birth

Gilesy missed the birth of at least one of his kids to play football. Walters won't be missed though.

No problem with Walters being away. Can't compare it to players playing during the week of a death, it's a totally different thing.
