    U18 Players 2019/20

Under 18 league back today. Goals for under 17 players ollie o'Neill Fulham, kavanagh middlesboro and also Charles derby who will be under 19 for us this year. Overall looks like maybe less players at that level than normal maybe due to better structures here now. Delap scored for man city obviously eligible for us at 17s this year.

    U18 players 2019/20

A few interesting notes from the opening weekend of U18 action:

Three members of our Euro U17s squad were on the mark:

Conor Carty scored twice for Wolves against Stoke: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...stoke-v-wolves

Meanwhile, the Southampton Academy continues to bring hope to us, with Roland Idowu getting a goal and assist against Aston Villa: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...-v-aston-villa

Charlie McCann scored a penalty for Man United against Sunderland: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...d-v-sunderland

Elsewhere, Joe Hodge got an assist for Man City against West Brom (quick, Mick, call him up before he grows bigger and England get a sniff!): https://www.premierleague.com/match/...rom-v-man-city

Matt Everitt also credited with an assist for Brighton against Reading: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...hton-v-reading

"Irish Messi" Zak Gilsenan came on as a second-half sub for Blackburn but was on the end of a hammering by Liverpool: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...rn-v-liverpool

Worth noting that Kavanagh is still part of the U16 squad

I note that Brighton finally have James Furlong on their website. There had been no official announcement of the transfer all summer apart from an incidental newspaper article. He’s on their under 18 team page. Did he play in their 3-2 win vs Reading? Can’t find the teams. Would be nice to see him progress to their under 23s lively

According to this - https://www.soccerway.com/matches/20...ademy/3114758/ - Everitt was the only Irish player involved

Heard that Hodge has gotten a bad injury. More details if I get them.

Hopefully it’s a hurdle he’ll overcome on the road being a regular for Stephen Kenny’s Irish team

Yeah? He played the full 90 minutes a few days ago for City's U18 side: https://www.mancity.com/news/academy...wcastle-17-aug
CJ Egan-Riley was in defence, and Liam Delap was up front. Timi Sobwale was an unused sub

He has something on his Instagram page saying thanks for the support and he'll be back soon.

Never like to see a lad his age get a bad injury, very hard to come back from that

Have we found the next teenage potential star striker? Ethan Varian scores two and is credited with an assist in Stoke's 4-1 win over Sunderland: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...erland-v-stoke

While the talk of Zak Gilsenan being the "Irish Messi" may have turned out to be a bit overblown, he does continue to make progress, playing the first 58 minutes for Blackburn U18s against Man United. Charlie McCann was credited with and assist, while Ayodeji Sotona played the last fifteen minutes: https://www.premierleague.com/match/...td-v-blackburn

Joe hodge - had an op on his injury yesterday. He is determined back as soon as he can but likely to be no sooner than the new year.

Goal for sotona at utd 18s today. Leahy with 2 for Brighton who it seems is eligible. Furlong involved for first time on bench for Brighton 18s. Gilsenan and kavanagh both started for Blackburn and middlesboro with rose on bench for everton as under 17s.

Furlong already came on as a sub last Saturday

Thought he’d be with their U23s and not their U18s, hopefully he’ll get his chance as season progresses

Yeah it's a massive step down from first team at rovers isn't it. Playing first team at rovers would surely have been better

Or the lad from Tralee Dynamos that was at the Euros?

I assume all 3 of the new lads are English born. Clearly Mark O'Toole is working overtime.

Sean Kennedy from tralee moved to sunderland but haven't seen him in 18s or 23s squads for them so far this season
